My best Morgan

Rob85635Rob85635 Posts: 1,230 ✭✭✭
Still in its GSA holder this is my best morgan. Someday I will send it in to get graded. Any comments? Grades? I know what I would grade it, but I want to know what everyone else has to say. I have an 1883 CC that I sent in to PCGS before I knew I should not have cracked it out of it's GSA holder. This coin is better than the 1883 I have. Some of the distracting marks are from the holder, and of course some it looks better at different angles, but I believe this to be an accurate picture of it.

A nice CC dollar for a GSA coin. The dies for this one previously clashed and were repolished. You can see this pretty easily at the lips/chin, neck/jaw, back of bonnet band, and at the wing edge below "In" of the reverse motto. Probably VAM-10.

VAM-10 is nothing, just one of the most common varieties for the date. Just an exercise to keep the chops up and I might be wrong. Don't have my VAM book handy.

a "VAM-10" may be nothing to you, but hey, I'm impressed I have something that people are actually interested in seeing. hehe. Thanks for all the positive comments, I will send it in. My 83cc I have pics of if anyone is interested but it is not as nice as the one pictured. I wonder to if it is semi PL, It does look good to me, I guess I better send it in.

I wasn't putting it down. Just noted that my attribution of VAM-10 didn't mean it was a rare variety, but one of the more common ones. Yes, it is a very nice example of the date in a GSA holder. (I once told a guy which VAM he had, which happened also to be a very common one for the particular date. He then listed it on eBay as a rare VAM.)

I know you were not putting it down. You just have to know me. I am tickled that it even has something that you other experts would know something about. And as far as selling or anything NO WAY, she is MINE MINE MINE. None of you know me personally but never take anything I say seriously, I am a big fat goofball and I am proud that this thread has generated interest. I love this forum, learning more and more each day and thank everyone for their patience. I know a lot of stuff I ask is dumb, but you have to consider the source, imageimage

Nice coin I say its a nice 65. If it were mine I would keep it in the GSA and send it to ngc to grade.

I would say 64 shot 65, but definitely nice for a GSA CC.

A real beauty. Strong strike, lots of frost, and obverse die cracks to boot.

That is sweet!! Wanna sell it? Definitly a 65 and I'll go out on a limb here and say 65PL.

Let's see. Original look. No marks. Really no marks. Oh, maybe a tiny hit on the nose. Good strike. Clean fields. Wow.

MS 66, possibly 67, but No PL. The nose hit holds it back, and also the planchet striations.
  • ccmorganccmorgan Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭
No way 67! The breast feathers on the reverse is the only thing holding it back from a 66.

65 all the way. Very few contact marks, nice forost, those roller marks keep it from a 66.
