Thanks for that link, Stone. The funniest part of that listing is that 1975 Topps wax packs contained only 10 cards, not 12! At least most pack factories know how many cards are in a pack, what a dolt! >>

that is why I wanted to see a photo of the bar and the 75 mini wrappers under the bar glass. I doubt that bar photo was even from his house.

Gary is, above all else, a fat, uneducated, low-class, CON-MAN, who took advantage of the trusting and moral individuals on SDN.

For the former three, he is pathetic.

For the latter two, he should be imprisoned.

I have been quiet on this topic so far. I am not a high a high roller by any means. I like to have fun, pull a big card, turn a profit sometimes, put together some sets for as cheap as possible. I do not really collect anything (used to be Andre Dawson) except for Topps sets and Heritage sets.

Gary: I was really impressed with you. You seemed to be well off financially and into the know on cards, so when you said you were just doing this for fun and for the hobby then I thought that was great. The fact that your Ebay history is questionable at best and you DID end up doing more rips to make $$ means you lied. I don't think you are welcome around here anymore and we are all going to be better off when you are gone. So leave. You have lied to us and made money off 'friends' when lying about that!

To everyone else: There may be others on the board that are not who they seem to be or say they are. I think it is important that everyone look at themselves and ask themselves: "Why am I in this hobby?" If the answer is to make $$ or turn a profit this may not be the best board for you to be posting on. I'm sure many of you are like me and want to build their collection and/or collect certain things every year that they may become interested am. I, for one, do not have 10s of thousands to blow, but I am not in this to make $$. I want to build my collection and do it as cheaply as possible, while still having fun. I'm sure many of you are like me, and I'm sure many of you have enough money to buy whatever you want. Whatever your motives are......as long as they aren't to simply make a profit through whatever means I am happy to have you as my friends and please stay as long as you would like!

    Steve,
You're a good guy but way off base here. The fact of the matter is that we did get tampered packs in some rips. He's just throwing out this making money gambit as a smokescreen. And as to that gambit itself: If your best friend told you he was selling you something at his cost only later to find out he lied and made good money on it..........that's not important? I beg to differ

I hate steve got kinda put in the middle of this but go ahead and ask him. Did I buy some full cases from him for good deals was I buying a lot of 80s boxes off of his ebay auctions. The answers are all yes and the above is how it all came to be

Steve is not in "the middle" of anything. Steve Hart is honest and trustworthy and beyond reproach. YOU are the liar and the thief here. Don't dare to try drag Steve into your cesspool.

there has to something i am missing here. someone fill me in on this one. if any particular break is say $5000. if 50 people paypal gary $100 each. well paypal takes their cut, so that leaves around $97 per person net. $97 times $50 = $4850. so did gary get a price break which no one else was aware of and if so how much was that. otherwise there is a shortage of about $150 here. this doesnt make sense.

edited to add- unless paypal's cut was figured into the initial price charged to everyone. therefore the net $ would equate.
edited to add- this was in no way a shot at steve. i am 100 % sure he had no idea what gary was up to reagrding this mess.

paypal fees and shipping are usually figured in to each persons cut.

EDIT: Whats sad is I was just reading through the baseball rip he ran. On 10-07-06 he posted that he was back in Cali with all the boxes from Steve except the 81 fleer or donr which he ordered from dacw. He then used that excuse to sit on the wax for 10 days. On 10-17-07 he posted that he had shipped.

I don't think 80sJunkie is quite getting the point here so I'll provide an illustration. Say I'm in charge of purchasing for a non-profit organization. Say the organization is buying widgets for $10 each and I happen to find a cheaper source at $5 each. That $5 savings is NOT my earned money to keep - it would be the organization's saved money. The saved money belongs to the organization...not me.

You're just not getting this Gary - this was supposed to be a non-profit venture. Can you imagine if you would have come on here and said, "Guys, guess what, I've got a source for the cards and/or I negotiated with Steve for a better deal. I'm gonna refund the difference to your PayPal accounts." You would have made good friends here for life. And frankly, through your ebay sales and elsewhere, you would have most likely made back much more money than this in card sales through referrals and recommendations over time.

You could have done the right thing but you chose to go the other way partner. In the long-run, the other way is not only deceitful, but actually is bad business. Let me tell you something...just to throw a random number out...perhaps you made say five thousand bucks on the deal? Over time, that five thousand bucks will mean almost nothing...you'll have blown that in a few sessions playing online poker or at a blackjack table, you'll have blown that in some accessories on a new car, you'll have blown that on a minor home improvement...you can replace the money...but the friends you lose in life can't be replaced.

This is a major mistake on your part and the only way I see to rectify it is to figure out the profits you made and provide a refund to every person involved. Deduct the plane fare to Indiana if you want to...that could be considered an expense...but refund all the profits. You may actually have a chance at redemption by doing this.

Ever see the popular movie "The Music Man"? This whole episode reminds me of that story in a way. Harold Hill chose redemption. There is an opportunity for redemption here. But will you take advantage of that opportunity? It's up to you.

I only participated in the Hockey rip run by Bob (onlypsahockey) and it was organized and ran perfectly. It was smooth, easy, and fun with Bob coordinating every aspect. From the purchasing of the product to the shipping (along with help from his son) and of course the clear communication during the entire process.

That's what happens when you deal with a stand up guy like Bob, and a true collector/friend. In fact even mentioning Bob's name in this thread is an insult to him. Sorry about that Bob!!

Guys, I'm sorry your other rips didn't work out as smoothly as the Hockey rip. Again kudos to Bob C. for his integrity and honesty.

  • Luckily I did not partake in this break. Three things don't sit well with me:

    (1) This guy has been buying empty wrappers on eBay.

    (2) Why was he so insistent in sending out the product himself when BBCE would happily do so?

    (3) He convenietly switches vendors without telling anybody. Who are these other vendors? What is their reputation?

That's an excellent point. There's only one way to find out and that's for Gary to do the right thing and then make the best of it. It will be up to each member here to decide how they wish to judge Gary after that.

I'll give you an example. Donald Trump has stiffed more people in this world than perhaps any other individual I know. I can't stand Rosie O'Donnell but she was basically correct recently in stating Donald Trump went bankrupt. Perhaps it wasn't personal bankruptcy, but I know it was at least once and I believe twice, that it was business bankruptcy. One company he stiffed, went bankrupt because Trump was their major customer, and this company which owed me $800, then stiffed me for the money because I didn't get a dime out their Chapter 11 proceedings. But to this day, I don't look at that company as stiffing me...I look at Trump as stiffing me.

But look at how Trump rebounded...stronger than ever. This Trump illustration towards Gary isn't a perfect analogy, but simply shows that people can rebound from certain things. Even Richard Nixon towards the end of his life had become sort of an elder statesman about US foreign affairs and people listened to him.

I'm not a "religious" guy in the organized sense of the word, so I'm not going to sit here and say "everyone" can be redeemed. Some will say even a Hitler could be redeemed but I'll never believe that. Of course Gary's no Hitler here. Yes, I do believe that if Gary chooses the right path...NOW...he can get past this okay with most people. Again...it's his choice.

    Steve

    -
  • I'm sick to my stomach.

I was in 4 rips of Gary's. I spent close to $400 all told in those rips.

    Gary VOLUNTEERED TO ORGANIZE.
He was NOT hired to broker.

My $400 was entrusted to him to purchase 1/36th share of a specific product (BBCE boxes).

Gary flat out lied about delivering that precise product.
The product I received is different from what what I paid for.

Gary --- you either owe me my money or my product.

    It's really that simple.

You deceived dozens of us, you piece of sh!t.

...and to think I tried to defend you --- tried to give you the benefit of the doubt as a "friend" of this community.

    Disgraceful. Disgraceful beyond comprehension.

Has anyone posted what he did on other boards? Isn't there in some way a sense of obligation in protecting others? I don't see any difference in this and people that knowingly sell counterfeits. In both cases it's someone taking advantage of others in the name of making a buck.

Yeah i did not make anything on the 78 break and am very glad steve shipped that would have been alot of work for nothing.

What a crock! You had your stash of 78 singles and wrappers and gum all ready to screw everyone over but much to your surprise Steve graciously volunteered to ship direct for us, and despite your well-chronicled resistance (even rebuffing zef who volunteered to go to Steve's warehouse to pick up the case, and bust his lot right there), you were finally outvoted (thank God!).

    Gary,

The "cards 4 Kids" donations need to be accounted for. Many of us donated cards to you for the purpose of donating them to sick or underprivileged kids.

I live in the same city as you; I would suggest explaining what happen to those donations... If can tell me were they went, I would be happy to check that out locally for everyone else on the boards.

I am not an attorney, but it seems to me that excepting items as a donation for a non-profit organization is serious business. If those donations ended up in your collection I believe you will owe taxes on that value. Even worse if you have sold them.

Its time to answer some of these questions.

Not going to start a new thread, just figured I'd ask here and see what type of response I get.

I help moderate another message board. It's a rather large board that has thousands of members and has received national attention in the past. Sometimes, we have someone that refuses to abide by the rules and they get banned. When they are banned, not only is the ID banned, but the IP address is banned as well. What is good is that you can look up an IP and see what users has been posting from said ID.

I hate to open up more controversy, but has anyone asked about the possibility of Gary having more than one user ID? Is that even possible on the CU board?
