Geeezz, I hate to start a new thread -- but what about all you west coasters -- who has done a hard look at the Denver coins? If I can get a case, I will post the findings. But new coins take a long time to get up to Alaska...

derryb, COngrats! It didn't realize a forum member found 93.
7over8, one search doesn't make a statistical case. Perhaps a large batch went through without, and they were highly concentrated in some shipments and less so in another.
Intersting dilema if I worked at a bank and was finding errors... how many to get. Little downside risk at face value--just worrying about security and tying up cash. Great upside potential even if they fall to $2 each!
No bids...folks probably think I just scratched it. I tell you though, this was the only anomaly out of the 250 dollars. But I have had fun passing them out. I went to the Oakland Coliseum to Disney on Ice with the kids, and passed them out to kids, security guards, ticket takers, all over the place. I had lots of fun and had great reactions!
My son goes to college in Jacksonville, Florida. He called me and stated he bought the last role of Washingtons his bank had. There were eight (8) blank rims in that role and thirteen (13) upside down lettering coins. He now wants me to sell them for college money, so I will. Most importantly, he has now become more interested in numismatics. Thanks George!

OK - the good news is my bank actually had the new dollars (that's unusual).
The bad news is they would only give me 5! Yes, only 5 coins -- not rolls... So the verdict is - NO smooth edges so far...
The biggest surprise is they were P Mints -- we always get D coins here in Alaska, so maybe there is hope!!

Just read an article entitled Washington Dollar plain edge FAQ's written by Susan Headley coin writer for about.com, who is compiling a list of error types, myths, and truths. Interesting.

Thanks Ron, good article -- I see she gives credit where it is due for the first reported... So your WERE Denver's -- is there any estimate of how many were found in the Chicago area?

<< <i>The box we have here from a JP Morgan Chase branch also has 103 on it. >>
The box I found mine in was CWI 102, Denver Mint mark. Have bought coins from at least 20 different bank branches but only found the 1 box that had errors.

67 Minor Scars based on what i've been seeing. Have seen some nice reverses though. Kinda remind me of the plantinum obverse.
