I am off to court for a settlement conference. If the case settles and I get paid, what coin should

To treat myself of course.
The case is a partition lawsuit on an unencumbered parcel of property in SF. 4 kids inherited same from the parents. 1 kid is in possession of the property and has frozen all other siblings out of the use of and obtaining any of the benefits of ownership of the property (Why can't family members just get along?
).
I was hired by one sibling almost three years ago, on a contingency (since he does not want to pay as he goes). If the case settles, I should get a nice payday (but far less than Longacre's NYC rate of $1,000.00 per hour). What coin should I buy to treat myself for a job well done?
If the case does not settle, then trial is 3-5-2007. Stay tuned for updates.

Even with all 3 you should have a few dozen choices!
Silly people. Round metal disks just aren't what they used to be. You attorneys like good investments. You should buy a Gem PCGS / PMG graded currency. Start with an Educational, Bison, Chief or a nice fancy back Treasury Note. They've been on fire and continue to burn.

Let's keep that opinion to ourselves.
Stay away from Seated Quarters. They are not the coins you are looking for. You don't need to see my ID. Move along.
Edited to add: Get a gold dollar with less than 10,000 mintage.

At least you're getting your share even though it's three years in the making.
There is another lawyer/ Morgan VAM expert from California who is on pro-bono duty who was assigned to be the counsel for a defendant accused of killing a law enforcement officer. The trial is estimated to take six months and everybody involved with the trial has been sequestered in an Indian Casino in Northern California.

I once tried that, more or less, in Atlantic City. Not recommended.

Wasn't his coice. The Indian Casino is the largest (and only non-crappy) lodging facility in the entire county. Also, he is not allowed to spend any time in the casino. He is only allowed to pass through it in the mornings, evenings and weekends.

5.5 hours later I am back in the office for a few minutes before heading home.
The case did not settle. The attorney for the other side was 40 minutes late. The court had a trial going on (General Mills vs. the Calif. Franchise Tax Board) and there were more lawyers and other "suits" than you could shake a stick at attending the trial. When the other lawyer did show up, he did not have his clients with him [violation of the court rules]. Kind of hard to settle with no clients being present [my client was present]. The judge finally called my case and the two lawyers spent time with the judge in chambers going over the case. He asked me if my client would take a certain dollar amount. I said yes. He talked with the other lawyer and then talked to me again. He thinks my client should be bought out of the property by the defendants and is going to work on getting the defendants and their counsel to do so. The judge ordered us back on Friday afternoon and orderd the three defendants to show up in court. I suspect that they will be willing to buy out my client. The only sticking point will be how much they have to pay, how long they have to raise the cash and what the consequences will be if they do not pay my client by the agreed upn deadline.
Thanks for the suggestions on coins to buy. I will ponder your suggestions while I wait for Friday's continued settlement conference. TTFN.
How much would the 1915 MPL sell for? Nice coin BTW.

DITTO, a coin like that could end up being in my box of 100 some day.
What would the grade be on that also?
If the settlement is smaller than that, consider a better date toned Barber Quarter (ie., 13 S) or Half (ie., 02 ) in MS 67 that's "all there," if you can find one.

Bust dollar.
The answer came outta thin air.
Flowing Hair, maybe.
Dunno why I saw a Bust or Flowing Hair dollar in your future. It just popped out.

Lawyers tend to travel in bunches, which I am sure you've noticed (especially when a big company has a litigation). Keep us posted on the settlement/trial.

If you're like my last attorney, then you should buy a darth vader coin...or perhaps a grim reaper...my ex didn't seem to properly appreciate his talents...
In the early 80's when I first started practicing I worked in So. Cal. and had to go the the downtown LA state courthouse and federal courthouse on a weekly, if not daily basis. A case in state court involving Dan Rather generated a lot of "suits" and lookie loos.
The whopper though was the federal court drug trial involving "John DeLorean". Talk about a media feeding frenzy. The telegenic "info babes", plus all of the support crew and their satellite trucks and other hardware were everywhere. The city and courthouse managers had set up areas on the street where the media would park their huge trucks for the duration of the trial. Hundreds of people [reporters and all of their support persons, plus lookie loos] would camp out in front of the different entrances to the courthouse waiting for a chance to get a look at, shove a mike in front of and get a quote from lawyers involved in the case, John Delorean and most importantly his then wife, Christina Ferrar.
Heading back to court for a continued settlement conference. Hopefully the defendants will choose to show up this time. Stay tuned.
