Topps woulda had him in there I'm sure, but Bowman had the exclusive contract to Mantle for '54 and 55, which is why no '54 or '55 Topps Mantles. Once Topps absorbed Bowman in '56 and with them, any card contracts - problem solved! Except for Musial - for whatever reason he signed with no card companies from '54 through '57 - would've been nice to have Stan the Man in those sets. Finally he came back as an all-star card in '58 I believe, and was in sets 59-63 until he retired.
My sincere apologies uncbob. As Storm had mentioned, we have seen more fraudsters come to this board than in a FPMITAP.
I would however, love to see some of your 50 FB's. The Doak Walker and the Tittle would be pretty cool to see.
Again, I am sorry. My dad, who is 67, once called me because he got a music cassette tape stuck in the VCR. I guess I just have a wrong perception based on my own experiences.
Uncbob, I for one would love to have you stay around long after everyone is tired of hearing about 51's Bowmans. Your experiences and stories would be well recieved by many of us older members. It's not a bad place to pop in and relate some stories about collecting and it's a good place to pass the time peacefully. Trust me Zef is a great guy but the internet makes us leery and we jump before we see if theirs water in the pool. Stick around, pull up a chair, and add your 2 cents. I for one welcome you. Joe

Salaries may be obscene today, but the amount of money some owners make is, too, so why shouldn't the players get their fair share? With luxury boxes, commercial advertising, cable TV deals, etc., there's a lot more money to go around. Back in the day, owners made money on tickets and hot dog sales and little else. I can understand why the average fan feels so far removed from the players today, but baseball is a great example of the free market system of capitalism in America. Still, it'd be nice to see Beltran on the 7 train on his way to Shea!

Well we almost had a fire last year. Had been heating the house with an old wood furnace and was putting in a new load of wood in the morning when I heard a WHOOSH sound (Kinda sounded like a jet engine) and knew immediately what was going on. Calmly closed of the air flow to the furnance and told the wife to call the fire department. By the time they had gotten here the fire was out but that was enough for us. Last spring we had an oil furnace put in. Although we miss the heat from the wood it's nice to be able to lay your head down at night and not have to worry about setting the house on fire.

I think I said if the owners get it the players should also
It ain't really free market when the taxpayers pay for a lot of the stadium costs etc
And commercial costs get passed down to those who may not even care about the games
Real free market the owners would build their own stadiums and it would be pay per view on TV with NO Commercials
Real free market the owners would build their own stadiums and it would be pay per view on TV with NO Commercials
Why should they if they have local politicians falling all over themselves to foot the bill? These guys (owners) are successful businessmen for the most part, and they didn't become that way by being foolish. As far as PPV goes, the owners of larger market teams like the Yankees and Mets who own their own cable networks (YES & SNY) make far more money on regular TV than they ever could on PPV. I mean, who would pay to watch a weeknight game in May on PPV??

Uncbob, If my eyes arent playing tricks on me those are some very nice 50 Bowman's. I have a few of them, The early bowmans are works of art in my opinion, Obscenely beautiful cards.

Man they were nice planes >>
These pics have little to do with planes (but, they are 1950's jets!) and nothing in common w 50's Bowmans, but I thought I would sneak a recent PSA sub. Luv 50's Bowman football artistry. But these scans do illustrate just how good 1950's cards (with their artistry) look in PSA slabs. Welcome aboard uncbob!
<< <i>I just checked out you 51 Bowman BB, Centering looks perfect on them. How much did you whitten the edges ? That is one heck of a nice 51 Collection. >>
I essentially cropped the photos --added a white border so the centering is perfect and borders are white and sharp
Whatever we deem to be the grades on these cards I Implore you NOT to put them into an Arrow holder. You will be doing yourself and the cards a great dis-service. When any knowledgeable collector sees a slab with the reputation of Arrow grading it makes them think the cards may have been altered in some way.Do yourself a favor and put them in a respectable holder, If not Psa then at least Sgc.
uncbob.....Welcome to the forum. Great to have you here even if it might be for a short time. I have followed this thread since it started and loved the scans of your 51 BB and 50 FB. Both are great sets. What application did you use to crop the 51's and add the white border? I think it really highlights the artwork. Have you done the same to your 50 BB or FB? I agree with others who have posted that arrowgrade may not have been the best choice, but I do wish you many more years of enjoyment of your cards before they are passed along.
