Hi, I just ended up selling my last (3) cards from this set the other night on eBay. Thanks for the interest, though.
Grades popped! I sent in 14 cards with the free vouchers from completing 75% of the master set plus several of the team sets. Since they disclosed that there is no posted turnaround time, I thought it could take months...well just a week later, they posted the grades and confirmed the ship date!!! Very impressive.
Now for the grades: (14 cards submitted)... No half grades 7- PSA 9s 5- PSA 8s 2- PSA 9OCs
A few of the 9s were low pops (Mark Duper, Mike Quick, Dexter Manley, Lance Mehl) so I was very pleased. However, the Bruce Smith and Dwight Clark got the OCs. Now I'm not a professional grader but the #54 Fuad Reveiz and Reggie White cards were probably two of the best cards I've ever seen and they got an 8 and a 9 respectively.
All in all, I added 9 of the 14 cards to my registry as either additions or upgrades! WJF

Hello David Thanks for the message. I have not received the case yet. I am expecting it this week. Have you ever purchased a case like this? If so how nice were the cards. I have talked to a couple of people that have opened these cases. They said the cards in these type of cases are all very nice, as good as rack cpack cards... What have you heard? I don't know much about how they come in regards to the card #s. I have been told it is usually by the sheet. That would mean you would get cards 1-132 or 133-264 or 265-396. Do you know how the card # are put into these cases??? 8,500 cards would break down to approxemently 64 of each card if they really are packaged 1 sheet per case..The seller has perfect feedback and I talked to him several times. He said he purchased the case new back in 87 and that the cards have never been touched. He sounded very ligit! I guess I will soon see. I would be very suprised if it was the case with the Rice or young cards. That would be too good to be true!Please let me know anything you know about these cut card cases. Sharing info like this is very helpful to all 86 football collectors.Thats the great thing about threads like this one. I will let everyone know how it turns out as soon as the case arrives. Hi David Thanks for the info.. The article you attached about cut case cards was very interesting. I received the case today and I learned alot from opening it. 1st It is very easy to see that the cards have not been searched. The rows of cards all line up in a perfect pattern. ( It kinda looks something like an area of farm land the has just been plowed with the lines going up and down.) 2nd I was expecting to find a cards from a single sheet ( 1-132 133-267 268-396 ) A few people have told me this is how Topps shipped them. Well I can tell everyone for a fact this is incorrect. I have only looked at about 200-300 of the cards and I can say there are cards from the entire set 1-396. I have already found 2 Rice, 3 Youngs, 3 Smiths, 5 Elways, 3 Montanas, 4 Marino, 10 Paytons and 4 Reeds. These cards are on all 3 sheets. So they must do these case with all 3 sheets. I was very supprised to find this based on what a few people had said. 3rd Your are right the cards at both ends of the box have moved over the years and caused some damage. I probally lost about 200 cards because of this. 4th The quality of these cards look to be all over the board. Like I said I have only looked at 200-300 and like all other 86 Topps football only about 10% of them are nice cards. Alot have severe centering issues and many have corner dings. However even at a 10% rate I will be getting aprox. 800-1000 very nice cards. So far of the key cards listed above 1 of the Youngs could be a PSA 9 and the rest would be 8's. 5th Based on the above info I figure I should get an average of 20 of each card. 20 Rices and 20 of all of the other key cards would not be a bad deal at all. A few PSA 9s of key cards along with some PSA 10s and I will be very please with mu purchase. My main goal with this purchase was to get common PSA 10s. Everything else including Rice, Young and all PSA 9s will just be cards to sell. Thanks again for all of your info in regards to this cut case. Hopefully the info I have included in this message will be helpfull to other collectors.

Hello everyone. As many of you know I purchased a 1986 Topps cut case with 8,500 unsearched 1986 Topps football cards. Wow what a buy! I did much better than I had expected. First I thought I would only be getting the cards from 1 sheet... That is what I was told by a few people. That is incorrect! I got cards from all 3 sheets from the 86 set. The quailty of the cards were as expected for 86 football (about 1 of every 10 is PSA 9 or 10 quailty) I have 105 cards that I will be sending in to PSA (These are all cards that I feel have a shot at PSA 10s.) I have another 750 cards that I put in top loaders that are PSA 9 or 10 quailty that I have for sale because I already own them in PSA 10.. Here is the breakdown...between 15-20 of every card in the set.
Rice 18 cards 4 nice cards all with a shot at PSA 9 1 maybe even a 10 Young 17 all PSA 8 quality due to centering, one may have a shot at a 9 Reed 20 PSA 8 9 and maybee a 10 quailty White 18 " Smith 15 " 2 shots at a 10 Perry 13 PSA 8 and 2-3 PSA 9 quality cards Esison 18 PSA 8 9 and maybe a 10 Elway 18 " Montana 18 " Mont PL 15 " Marino 16 " Payton 17 "
Like I said above I have several ( about 750 ) PSA 10 and PSA 9 quaility raw cards, That I am not sending in to PSA because I already have one in PSA 10 , or its a PSA 9 quality card and I only collect PSA 10s. If anyone is interested in purchasing any of these raw cards please give me a call or send me a message of what you want.
I am also going to sell some of these as 86 Topps football key players packages (10 cards). That would include 1 of each card in NM condition Rice, Young, Reed ,Smith, White, Perry, Kosar, Esison, Elway, and Montana
I also have the extra 7,500 or so cards that I will be selling if someone is interested. The extra 7,500 cards still has alot of very nice cards left. I would feel safe in saying there is still a few PSA 10s and alot of PSA 9's left that I did not pull.

I am excited to say I also just completed my 86 set after 5 years. I finally took MOSH out of the number 1 spot he held for 6 years. Finally finished the set! All 9s and 10s except one PSA 8 (#100) and one PSA 8.5 (#160) but it's 100% done! Took about two years and rush a few buys, therefore have some buyers remorse being that I probably could have bought smarter and spent a couple grand less. A few of the 9s were low pops (Mark Duper, Mike Quick, Dexter Manley, Lance Mehl) so I was very pleased. However, the Bruce Smith and Dwight Clark got the OCs. Now I'm not a professional grader but the #54 Fuad Reveiz and Reggie White cards were probably two of the best cards I've ever seen and they got an 8 and a 9 respectively.
All in all, I added 9 of the 14 cards to my registry as either additions or upgrades!

Thanks for the message. I have not received the case yet. I am expecting it this week. Have you ever purchased a case like this? If so how nice were the cards. I have talked to a couple of people that have opened these cases. They said the cards in these type of cases are all very nice, as good as rack cpack cards... What have you heard? I don't know much about how they come in regards to the card #s. I have been told it is usually by the sheet. That would mean you would get cards 1-132 or 133-264 or 265-396. Do you know how the card # are put into these cases??? 8,500 cards would break down to approxemently 64 of each card if they really are packaged 1 sheet per case..The seller has perfect feedback and I talked to him several times. He said he purchased the case new back in 87 and that the cards have never been touched. He sounded very ligit! I guess I will soon see. I would be very suprised if it was the case with the Rice or young cards. That would be too good to be true!Please let me know anything you know about these cut card cases. Sharing info like this is very helpful to all 86 football collectors.Thats the great thing about threads like this one. I will let everyone know how it turns out as soon as the case arrives.

Thanks for the info.. The article you attached about cut case cards was very interesting. I received the case today and I learned alot from opening it.
1st It is very easy to see that the cards have not been searched. The rows of cards all line up in a perfect pattern. ( It kinda looks something like an area of farm land the has just been plowed with the lines going up and down.)
2nd I was expecting to find a cards from a single sheet ( 1-132 133-267 268-396 ) A few people have told me this is how Topps shipped them. Well I can tell everyone for a fact this is incorrect. I have only looked at about 200-300 of the cards and I can say there are cards from the entire set 1-396. I have already found 2 Rice, 3 Youngs, 3 Smiths, 5 Elways, 3 Montanas, 4 Marino, 10 Paytons and 4 Reeds. These cards are on all 3 sheets. So they must do these case with all 3 sheets. I was very supprised to find this based on what a few people had said.
3rd Your are right the cards at both ends of the box have moved over the years and caused some damage. I probally lost about 200 cards because of this.
4th The quality of these cards look to be all over the board. Like I said I have only looked at 200-300 and like all other 86 Topps football only about 10% of them are nice cards. Alot have severe centering issues and many have corner dings. However even at a 10% rate I will be getting aprox. 800-1000 very nice cards. So far of the key cards listed above 1 of the Youngs could be a PSA 9 and the rest would be 8's.
5th Based on the above info I figure I should get an average of 20 of each card. 20 Rices and 20 of all of the other key cards would not be a bad deal at all. A few PSA 9s of key cards along with some PSA 10s and I will be very please with mu purchase. My main goal with this purchase was to get common PSA 10s. Everything else including Rice, Young and all PSA 9s will just be cards to sell. Thanks again for all of your info in regards to this cut case. Hopefully the info I have included in this message will be helpfull to other collectors.

Hello everyone. As many of you know I purchased a 1986 Topps cut case with 8,500 unsearched 1986 Topps football cards. Wow what a buy! I did much better than I had expected. First I thought I would only be getting the cards from 1 sheet... That is what I was told by a few people. That is incorrect! I got cards from all 3 sheets from the 86 set. The quailty of the cards were as expected for 86 football (about 1 of every 10 is PSA 9 or 10 quailty) I have 105 cards that I will be sending in to PSA (These are all cards that I feel have a shot at PSA 10s.)
I have another 750 cards that I put in top loaders that are PSA 9 or 10 quailty that I have for sale because I already own them in PSA 10.. Here is the breakdown...between 15-20 of every card in the set.
Rice 18 cards 4 nice cards all with a shot at PSA 9 1 maybe even a 10
Young 17 all PSA 8 quality due to centering, one may have a shot at a 9
Reed 20 PSA 8 9 and maybee a 10 quailty
White 18 "
Smith 15 " 2 shots at a 10
Perry 13 PSA 8 and 2-3 PSA 9 quality cards
Esison 18 PSA 8 9 and maybe a 10
Elway 18 "
Montana 18 "
Mont PL 15 "
Marino 16 "
Payton 17 "
Like I said above I have several ( about 750 ) PSA 10 and PSA 9 quaility raw cards, That I am not sending in to PSA because I already have one in PSA 10 , or its a PSA 9 quality card and I only collect PSA 10s. If anyone is interested in purchasing any of these raw cards please give me a call or send me a message of what you want.
I am also going to sell some of these as 86 Topps football key players packages (10 cards). That would include 1 of each card in NM condition Rice, Young, Reed ,Smith, White, Perry, Kosar, Esison, Elway, and Montana
I also have the extra 7,500 or so cards that I will be selling if someone is interested. The extra 7,500 cards still has alot of very nice cards left. I would feel safe in saying there is still a few PSA 10s and alot of PSA 9's left that I did not pull.

Is PSA being a little looser with the 8.5s??
I see that someone just got 40+ 1986 Topps football 10s back from PSA this week. Does anyone know who received these. I am looking to purchase all of them! If anyone knows who got these please let me know. Thanks Kevin Roberson Elitecards 1=916-275-2897

I just received a large order back from PSA with over 40 PSA 10s and over 70 PSA 9s from the 1986 Topps football set. Many of these are the key low POP PSA 9s that do not have any 10s graded yet. You can look at my 86 registry.. Extra PSA 9s and Extra PSA 10 to see what I have and what came in new. I currently have over 50% of the entire 86 set available. I also just received back over 100 PSA 9 and PSA 10s form the 1984 set that are also all for sale.

It's been a while since anyone has adding anything to this thread! It looks like a few of you have completed the set over the past few months and a few are just a couple of cards away. I am excited to say I also just completed my 86 set after 5 years. I finally took MOSH out of the number 1 spot he held for 6 years. I did want to give a shout out of THANKS to everyone who has helped me with this set. Special Thanks to Joe S, Bill F, Wil P, Wil J , Eric B. Jon C and Nathan. Over the years they have all be very supportive and helpful with my set.
I still have not completed my ultimate goal of all PSA 10s but I am getting closer each day! If anyone has any 86 PSA 10s for sales please contact me at 1-916-419-0179 or 1-916-275-2897. I will buy any and all PSA 10s that you have for sale and PSA 9 collections that are 50 cards or more. I also have over 25% of the set in extra PSA 10 and 40 of the set in extra PSA 9s. I have a few 8s and 9s that I've recently upgraded. #'s: 36, 87, 204, 236, 247, 373, 378, 386 (all 8s except # 378 is 8.5). More 9s coming soon when I take delivery of 10 more PSA 10s that I just upgraded.
