<< <i>Me personally, I'd call in a relief disaster team and tell them to bring a couple dump trucks and some extra labor and clean that mess up. Nothing there makes any sense! >>
1960toppsguy,
Well that's the beauty of collecting. One man's junk is another man's treasure.
To many it makes no sense that grown men and women collect little pieces of cardboard with pictures on them. Heck over on one of the eBay boards it was mentioned that it seemed rather gay for guys to collect pictures of other guys. As a child and preteen I never really collected cards with the exception of a few non-sports cards and was more into toys. Than teen years came and it was music (Which got me thru many hard times) and as an adult I started collecting sports cards. But unlike many when I was done with one thing I didn't toss the stuff away. I mean it's good that people did because it gave a value to some of this stuff but that's not why I collect the way I do as I could care less what something is worth and that's why I don't search out the top grade of anything I collect.
This was in my opinion an incredible buy. This was bought at the same yard sale as the Yaz game and was $1. Other than the stain to the box it looks like this was never played with at all. I'm including large scans to show just how nice these cards are.
This was also one of the many yard sale finds. Was bought sometime in the 80's and paid no more than a couple dollars for it. Sad part is that it was purchased before I was into collecting sports items and instead of leaving the model unbuilt I built it because I was into that at the time.
But I did keep the box and everything in it and still have the model as well.
This is probably the strangest item in my collection. This was obtained in Pennsylvania in the 1980's from an estate that my Aunt was overseeing and this was determined as an item that was not worth auctioning off.
At the time I had no idea as to what it was but found it interesting and claimed it. A couple years later I was watching David Letterman and a woman from a museum of medical oddities was on the show and had one of these without the case and I had finally learned what it was and what it was used for.
Now with having internet access I have learned even more about this strange item.
Why bleed with one spring-loaded blade when you could have 4, 12, or even 20?! As long ago as the 17th century there were multi-bladed bleeders called scarificators. These became very popular in the late 18th and 19th centuries. Like spring lancets, they came in every size and description. Figures 19 and 20 show a basic octagonal English scarificator. The case is brass and the mechanism and blades are steel. There is a depth adjuster for the blades on the top and the blades are c ocked by the lever on top. The release switch is on the side. This allowed the blades to swing around, making multiple cuts at once. Scarificators with pointed V-shaped blades are probably pre-1820. Those with slightly rounded blades are later. Round scarificators are usually French in design and post-1860 (often around 1900!) Scarificators that have a mechanism allowing the blades to stay in the half-c ocked position are probably post-1830. Figures 21-24 show a variety of scarificators. Note the example of Tiemann’s patent 1846 scarificator with unusual horn handle in figure 23. This figure also show a rare solid silver scarificator made in England. Figure 24 shows the tremendous variation in sizes between these devices.
Mine has the function of being allowed to stay in a half-c ocked position and would date this to probably around 1850 or so.
<< <i>Oh yeah, The Superbowl Shuffle Thanks for sharing. >>

To funny as I also don't throw out boxes. It's got to be a bit of a sickness when you can't make yourself do that.
And I love the rolls of TP. That would be right up my collecting alley for sure. And I admit that I have some of those Teenie Beanies kicking around as well.
Julen,
The "adult" mags are packed away to make sure that my 5 year old doesn't happen on to them. Wouldn't want to have to explain the "birds and the bees" at this early stage. Surprisingly I don't have the first issue of Playboy. I do have a good run of 70's and 80's issues along with various other publications.
And it's safe to say I am a packrat and also pretty cheap when it comes to collecting. When people look at the amount of stuff I have the first thing is that had to cost alot to buy all that and although I really have no idea as to what has been spent many items were bought for next to nothing. My record collection was mostly obtained from yard sales in large lots. Not unusual to have paid $5 for 100 albums. To be honest probably 75% of what I have has been yard sale finds and even now I from time to time come across a really good deal. I'm like most hoping to find that one sale that has all the vintage cards a guy could want for next to nothing but that has never happened.
Did find these today and couldn't pass them up as you can never have enough stuff to read and the price was right as well.
Completely ok for you or anyone else that wants to show some of your collection. I enjoy seeing things that I don't have and am hoping that others have enjoyed what I have shown in the pics. Heck most of the time I spend on eBay is just to browse as I love to just look at stuff.
I like the decanters but have never bought any. I know I have passed more than one up in my travels.
I have some sheet music to but none sports related. Have a Monkees song book, a couple Barbara Streisand ones from the 70's and a handful of odds and ends. Nothing spectacular but they caught my eye. And the trade cards, I remember seeing them back in the 80's but wasn't into them and never bought them.
Looking at the MickyD's item and that's scary as I do that to. I have some happy meal boxes somewhere and alot of the plastic cups they put out for the Olympic basketball team. I also have empty potato chip bags with basketball players on them as well.
Love the paper airplanes. And your right as most kids wouldn't know what to do with them. My son must be odd because he will play with a paper airplane for hours on end.
Stone, as for your VW HOT WHEELS button, those were "real metal collectors buttons!" that came along in the package when you bought an original redline Hot Wheels blisterpack.
On eFlay, look up "hot wheels redline mint blister" or something to that effect, and you should be able to see.
Barf - amazing. I think I've never seen such a sheer amount of stuff!!!

A belated "Happy Anniversary!!" to you and the Mrs.!
I've contemplated sharing some pics of some of my hoard. I still have most of it in boxes as I wait for some time to get "my" room repainted. I've got what my wife (of 25 years!) calls a "Collection of Collections".
<< <i>I didn't see Lite Brite anywhere! What an amazing amount of STUFF. I could never amass that kind of quantity .... never, never , never! >>
The Lite Brite didn't survive childhood along with Lincoln Logs, Legos, Spirograph and so much more that just got played with, destroyed, lost or thrown out.
We've been buying some of what I had as a child for my son such as the Legos and Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, of which he loves.
And the quantity of stuff can get overwhelming (Especially when we had to move) but my wife is great and is always pointing out stuff that I might like when we go out treasure hunting but she doesn't generally buy anything on her own only because she doesn't fully know what all is in that room and doesn't want to buy something that I already have.
<< <i>Seriosly, 3 Alph dolls!!. I cant even see having one of those.
I was checking out your stereo system, obviously you dont listen to music much, too much stuff stacked on top of it.
Ill bet your maid committed suicide in there a few years ago, and you just stacked your Yoda beanbag chair on her.
Great pics, great. >>
Oh you can never have enough Alf dolls.
And actually I listen to music all the time (beats anything on the TV). I just don't use any of the equipment in the room. I instead listen to everything on my computer set-up. I have some other older stereo equipment hooked up to it which includes an Optimus STAV-3400 Dolby Pro Logic receiver hooked to a set of Optimus 1050 speakers with 15 inch woofers (these cost $300 each when new) and an old pioneer speaker for the center channel. Don't have rear ones hooked up because really don't need them for music.
And I used to listen to the records a lot but once you have a child running around it's just not worth risking the damage that would occur.
And as for a maid, well that would be me as I am a stay at home Dad and once we can stop using the heat it's spring cleaning time as the dust from a forced hot air furnace tends to build up over the winter.
Jeff very funny, you have a great sense of humor. In I think your 3rd pic from the beginning I noticed an awful lot of dust on old darth vaders helmet. Hard enough to breath in that damn thing as it is.
Great stereo btw, Im still hanging in there on my old college stereo as well. Great kenwood KRV 9070, one of the first universal remotes they made, and a pair of Cerwin Vega AT-15's taht I had to take a $500 bank loan to buy.
thanks for opening up your world to all of us, seedy underbelly and all
I have been trying to get this mess a little under control and can now see my floor.
Took a bit of time to get it so I can at least maneuver in here without half killing myself by falling over something and have been able to start dusting off whatever can be reached.
Of course I now have nearly 100,000 commons and semi-stars sitting in my hallway just before you get to this room.
Still can't get into my closet.
Threw just about everything imaginable on this shelf.
And I can finally get at and see into this Timex case.
<< <i>I saw a Vectrex gaming system box in there...pretty sure those are quite prized and if working will get you some coin if you were to sell it.
Thanks for sharing the photos. >>
You did see a Vectrex and it does work. The control is iffy as the circuit board in it has cracks (control saw some hard use back in the day) so it probably should be replaced or repaired someday.
Slow time of the year as no yard sales to search for treasures but I can usually find something when I go out.
Couple latest items.
These were bought at Wal Mart for $5.00 each which isn't a tremendous deal as the original price was $9.99 but still very nice items.
And these books were bought at our local discount store (Mardens) for $2.00 each and of course I couldn't just buy one.
<< <i>wow and I thought I was bad.
Steve >>
Yeah Steve it's rather overwhelming sometimes. I am trying to get a handle on the card collection and have sorted over 100,000 (late 80's early 90's) into a discard pile. Will try and give them away and if that doesn't work they will be tossed.
<< <i>Your'e going to have to start selling off some of that stuff. Do you have another storage room for your new purchases?
Jake >>
You know Jake I realize that some of what I have could/should be sold off (anyone need any 70's and 80's adult mags ) but I guess the collection is just such a part of me that it would be hard to do. The plan is someday to take and make a nice room in the basement to properly display this mess. As it is now we are in the middle of a home improvement nightmare where the contractor has done a horrible job and that room is way out of order now (not that it had much to begin with) and when and if he decides to come and fix what should have been done right in the first place that room will be a complete mess. I do have some other items in the basement and a couple of other items in various rooms in the house but that is the primary room for any and all new items I add.
Now that collection has a serious case of ADD. Wow man, that is quite the variety and quantity of stuff!!! I'm sure it was fun collecting all of that stuff. Do you still add items? I hesitate to use the word "hoarder" (mostly because I have the same problem, lol). At least you have most of it displayed, making it a "collection" instead of a problem worthy of an episode of Oprah.

<< <i>It still looks like a lot of smoke damage on much of the stuff. So dark and yellow. I dunno maybe its the camera. How much could you get if you listed everything on eBay? >>
I can explain why the pics look that way. I was using my old camera (Concord EyeQ Duo 2000) which is a cheap camera and takes low quality photos. If you look at the last three pics I added that is with my new camera which is still an older one (Kodak EasyShare LS443) which takes much better quality photos. Oh and there is also a bit of dust on some of the items as well.
Here is a couple pics of roughly the same section of the room.
Old Camera
Newer Camera
As to what it might get if all was listed. Hmmm. I have no clue. Would be interesting to find out though.

The variety is from being a lifetime collection. Although I have a few odds and ends of early childhood most of what's there is from around the age of 10 years old to now (will be 40 in May). Didn't collect sports cards until 1988 which is to bad as I remember finding many at flea markets and yard sales growing up but my interests were in other things so I passed them by.
I guess I could be considered a hoarder. I have sold and traded items before so not a problem in getting rid of stuff just find it hard to want to part with the bulk of the collection. I'm sure someday I should weed it out and concentrate on getting a handle on a few things instead of thousands of things but as long as I'm having fun at it I guess I'll just keep on adding here and there.
And it's sorta, kinda displayed. Don't see the sense of having things and not being able to look at them which is the great thing about the internet as I can share with others the total passion (or madness, which ever way anyone looks at it) of this collection of stuff. When people have seen it in person it's usually the same reaction as the jaw drops and then they stand there totally stunned and just look around finding bits and pieces of their own childhoods and smiling at the memories it brings.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

And your very welcome.

how's the collection coming nowadays? >>
Slow time of the year as no yard sales to search for treasures but I can usually find something when I go out.
Couple latest items.
These were bought at Wal Mart for $5.00 each which isn't a tremendous deal as the original price was $9.99 but still very nice items.
And these books were bought at our local discount store (Mardens) for $2.00 each and of course I couldn't just buy one.
<< <i>wow and I thought I was bad.

Jake >>
You know Jake I realize that some of what I have could/should be sold off (anyone need any 70's and 80's adult mags

ebay i.d. clydecoolidge - Lots of vintage stars and HOFers, raw, condition fully disclosed.
Looks fine to me. Must be your monitor...
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
<< <i>Now that collection has a serious case of ADD. >>

Guess someone doesn't know how to follow what's in their signature line as that seems a bit of a personal attack.
Glad I was able to make you sick.
