    julen23,

i think dave mcnally will sell for the most, just a guess however!

Looks like McAndrew is pulling away from the pack with 2 days to go

    indeed.

bad week for me on ebay. i finally bought a psa 8 gibson and wound up paying $50 more than the psa 8 you had for sale. on selling side, i sold several low pop psa 10 '84 donruss for rather flaccid prices. the exact same cards went for nice premiums like 2 days before mine. the strange thing is, NONE of the people driving up the prices for larryvan's auctions even bid on mine????

ahhh, chalk it up to the game!

That's about what its become. Grading, ebay, the entire business. Once you understand this, its becomes easier.

    Keeping this thread going:

here is 1 of my nicer cards from this set. there is usually some "snowy" effect on this card, kind of like the brock card.

That's my sub. Thanks for posting it here!

Seeing what the last PSA 8 Brock went for, I'm fairly certain I'll sell this one. I'd consider taking part in trade, but it would have to be half cash + a whole lot of really nice, well-centered PSA 8/9 NQ cards in sets I'm working on. I'm working on 1970, 1971 & 1972.

so I buy a hi-grade '69 set in MAstro's auction last year. Beauty of a set. All stars and HOFers PSA-8, including the Brock and Yaz, which are both very well centered and very nice cards. Never knew some of the cards were soooo wanted. I have been debating selling the Carew card but cannot make up my mind.

I really do not care if I have a PSA-7 or PSA-8 in the set, since I am not trying to complete the set all graded. In fact, other than the 45 or so cards that came graded, I do not plan to grade any others. Thankfully do not really need the $$.

What do you all think? Sell or no sell?
  • Julen,

I got my bid in. I really don;t think the reserve will be met, whatever that is.

e-mailed the seller (russell) and asked him why he was still charing $20 for s/h when card will sell for several thousand dollars. he said it was a mistake during listing and he is not going to charge pissy $20 for s/h fees.

i tell you, the "snowy effect" gods must've aligned correctly when topps printed this set.

lou brock's psa 8 basically sells for as much or more than any non-error/variation psa 8 in the entire set, minus a psa 8 mantle. of course, a not so nicely centered psa 8 mantle will NOT sell as much as a not so nicely centered psa 8 brock IMHO.

i have a psa 7 raybshotz was nice enough to sell me about 3 years ago, and i am stickin' w/ it until i win the lottery or change my focus in a major fashion regarding how i collect '69 master set.

who cares, Anna Nicole Smith died today!!!

tons of possibilities for selling if you wanted to...

i would keep the cards personally, they won't depreciate or be prone to major smr changes like more modern sets.

psa 8 brock & yaz sell for premiums, but why sell 2 cards and bust entire set up?

i am glad i didn't, b/c i would've busted them open and then felt serious embarassment financially.

I got the rack in a Mastro auction around june 2001 I think. It was a lot of 5 racks with Clemente on front (69, 71, 72, 73 and 75 mvp card). Have sold off the 71 and 73.

Here is another picture you asked for, the bad news is it is not mine. If I remember right, Mark Murphy had it and auctioned off each pack seperately

    definitely.

there are other psa 8's (from time to time) that come across e-bay, that won't be selling for $875 either, which could possibly save you more $$$$.

    fingers = $70/max

jackson = NO more than $550 (and that's pretty generous IMHO), but the vast majority are in $400-475 range (again, IMHO)

i e-mailed psa & asked them if they would submit the rose 1/1 on the monthly smr rag. $10k for a card is pretty massive for '69s, albeit any card other than wl mantle variation.

who owns the psa 10 wl mantle variation anyway? pop report says there is 1 psa 10 out there?????

I finally cracked the top 5 in the 1969 Topps Basic Set Registry. At least for the moment, I am in a tie for 4th, under the name Starfire's 1969 Set.

I still have a few cards to upgrade from 7's to 8's or 9's. Then I get to look at the whole set, and upgrade the ones where I do not like the centering. It doesn't ever end, does it? There are quite a few that are tough to find with decent centering, because I have tried to upgrade some of the cards already and just can't find satisfactory examples of quite a few. Still a lot of work to fine tune the set to where I would like to see it.

If I recall correctly, I think he was charging $300 per pack. I bought three at a discount. I think I got them for around $275 a pack. I opened one (got a few PSA 8 commons, some O/C commons, a few LL cards, but no major stars), I graded (GAI 7.5) and sold another on eBay and I've kept the third and nicest condition pack ungraded for my collection.

Congrats, you just passed me up and knocked me out of the top 5. You must have built it fast because I didn't see you coming. I've gone from #4 to #6 in a few weeks since Dan also recently passed me. I'm glad though as it's nice to see more people building this set in high grade. I'm surprised more aren't doing so. It's a great set and reasonably priced with relatively few expensive low pop commons.

i gave up chasing entire master set this past year and sold 200+ psa 7/8 commons to "fish" for the variations in this set instead. so many HOF'ers in twilight of their careers too. My personal connection to late '50s and early '60s baseball.

i would love to own a psa 10 yaz also....

Gemint, I know how you feel. I had my 55 Bowman in the top 5 for about two weeks before someone registered a set (all at once) and knocked me out. I don't think I will be at that level in the 1969 set for long either. There are a couple of sets being built that have hefty weighted GPA's that will be knocking some people out of the top 5 soon.

I agree with you on the set. It has a lot of Hall of Famers, including Mantle's last card which lists all his stats from all his playing years, and the low pop commons are still at a reasonable level.

You are one of the pioneers of the set. You built your set when the cards were not as plentiful and was much more difficult to find the high grade cards. It isn't that easy to find some of the cards now, so I can appreciate your efforts on your set. I understand it is a very nice set.
