this card look sharp it has to be the slight diamond cut that keeps it from a 7 or 8

The Wilks looks nice, but the Snider seems like a generous PSA 5.
  • baseballfanbaseballfan Posts: 5,460 ✭✭✭
i agree, i thought it was going to be a 4 myself
i also sent in a 54 j. robinson i thought was a 5 and i think it came back a 4, oh well i only sent them in to have them in a holder for protection.its mine and will probably be the last card i get rid of ever...

the grading in the 4-5-6 range with these early 50's cards are up and down, i think...

If this does not belong here because the cards im auctioning are raw, or just because it's spam, then I apologize, and if someone objects I will edit to remove it.

I picked up about 600 1952 Topps baseball cards at the National this year, and these cards are the best of the group based on eye appeal (a few of the stars are lower grade). Hopefully there will be a few that some of the 1952 set builders on here will need.

    Here is the link

    Thanks for looking.

  • Congrats Pat (cohocorp)!!

I am looking for a PSA 7 #387 to complete my 3rd PSA 7 1952 Topps Basic Set (also working on a 3rd PSA 7 Master Set)

I have a number of duplicate PSA 5 - 8 1952 Topps - if anyone needs cards (or have cards I need), email me with cards you need and any PSA 7's you may have to trade (besides the 387, I am looking for a number of low #'s - depending on whether back is Red or Black)

I don't what it was I saw earlier, I thought I was looking at completed auctions. Sounds like you did ok.
  • Just a bump to bring this thread back to life. I have finally decided to try and slowly put this set together as money is available in the psa 5-6 range. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

let me know if you have any double and i'll do the same.

  • I'm working on this set as well. My GPA so far is 6.38

    1952 Topps Collector.

  • I am in the clubhouse at #94, Steel-N-Home. I am a computer illiterate but somehow got to post a scan of my first card.
Problem is it wasn't showing up at first so I scanned it again, and now have two scans and can'd find delete photo anywhere.

  • I have the #7 basic set on the registry, which is 100% and 7.10 GPA. I had only 3 PSA 6 cards to upgrade out of, and in last night's Goodwin auction I picked up #354, Clyde Sukeforth in PSA 8. I bid on the other 2 I needed, #2 and #72, but the prices got so stupid that I decided to just wait for PSA 7's to show up. Once those two 6's are upgraded, then my set will have only 7's and 8's.

My eventual goal is to get my set to a 7.25 GPA, and getting the Sukey gets me to 7.12. Once it arrives I'll have a nice PSA 6 available if anyone cares.

  • << <i>i think i am going to try to get a low numbered set all cards 310 and lower. >>

I suggest you focus on cards 1-80 first. Those are the tough ones. Cards 81-310 can be picked up readily down the road. I'm currently 94 cards away from my PSA 7 set. 22 in the 1-80 range, 3 in the 81-310 range and the remaining 69 are high numbers. Those are damn expensive. But since you've already decided to skip those for now, the tough series that you should never overlook is the first 80 cards.

    Enjoy, it's an addiction.

I have a dumb question for you guys. I'm doing a display for my Roy Campanella basic set and I've come to the realization that it will be a long time before I can afford the '52 Topps Campy. I was wondering if someone here had a nice midgrade copy that they wouldn't mind scanning so that I can at least have a picture in place of the real thing. I know this is an unusual request but if someone could help me out I would very much appreciate it. If you are worried about my being a scammer please don't. Feel free to block out the serial number. I can give you references as to my integrity if you are at all worried. Thanks in advance.

I just bought a second Campanella after it was pointed out on another board that the card could be found with and mostly without the R in Major League above the stats on the back. Getting those two and the two versions of the double prints of Mantle, Robinson and Thompson is a nightmare for us obsessive variations/errors/oddities guys. Although check out the prices being paid for the super scarce "Canadian" gray backs on ebay currently and recently

  • I am ashamed to say that I have begun a 52 set. Im kidding. I loved this set since a friend of mine in highschool got all his dad's old 52s and 53s. They were all in what would now be 7 or better.

I began the set in April, with a goal of completing a MASTER set in 7's. I have managed to so far complete 40+%, with almost the entire low #'s in 7. I am waiting on a grade on a Pafko Red (which sure better get a 7 - its amazing).

I have most of the stars as well, including Martin and Berra, along with almost all the tough low number cards. I am still missing #5, 6, 20, 23 and 71 & 72. My runnels is a 6.

I also have some 8's mixed in, and a pile of Raw in for grading, and I should be able to fill in some major holes with that group.

The set is very challenging, as there are a lot of very tough cards to even FIND in 7, let alone be able to win them or buy them.

I will keep you all informed as I continue on. My set is currently @ 6.86 grade, # 55 on the registry.

    Cheers!!

Welcome and good luck. Completing the 52 in 7s will be a challenge, especially a master set. How are you defining your goal of a master set ?

  • My definition of a master is 100% on the PSa registry in 7's. My campos black star is a 4, but I am not paying 20 grand for an 8.

Im not even going to bother with the greys - they are all terribly miscut and really ugly.

The left and right stitching on a few cards is not my concern

My mantle strategy is to have it as the last 3 cards, as I feel the high numbers are cheap right now in comparision to even a couple of years ago, and the time to strike is now. The mid numbers can wait - they are everywhere, and there is always a good deal on them on ebay.

  • bishopbishop Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭
The stitching issue is only on Mantle, Thompson and Robinson, the double prints. The SCD Standard Catalog for 2012 included them as variations for the first time ( there are front differences as well) . It will be interesting to see if they are ultimately added to the registry. I'm glad to have them. There have also been recent SCD articles about variations to the House and Woodling cards, although Woodling is just a print border defect. The ouse involves a yellow or orange tiger

I agree with you on the greys. It is not so much appearance as it is they are ultra scarce and have been going for $ 500 on the average on ebay recently .

I have 3 Campos cards... one is not on the registry or in the SCD Catalog ( although it was discussed in an SCD article), in which the front black border is missing in the upper left corner
