Is this JJ Teaparty coin real or not?

I don't like the look of the eagle (it looks a bit squat), but it could just be that I'm unfamiliar with the series and/or it's a bad picture.

As an aside, I've had very good transactions with them so I don't think they would knowingly sell a fake.

If JJTeaparty is selling it, you can bet it's real.

Trade dollars are a funny series. While some coins look bad they are not, and some that look good are bad. Unless you have a lot of experience in the series it is difficult to tell the difference sometimes.
JJ Teaparty will not sell a bad coin- They are quite experienced. However their pictures could use a lot of improvement sometimes.
Trade dollars are the most counterfieted US coins and should be approached with caution. However a coin bought from a dealer such as JJ teaparty will not be counterfiet. The new or casual or person who is not versed on the series should either buy from a dealer like JJ teaparty or only buy PCGS, NGC or ANACS coins. Bob

By all the diagnostics for this date and mintmark, the coin looks real to me. IMO, it's the real deal.

JJ Teaparty is really beyond reproach--an exceptional dealer with good material--and frequently at very good prices. I've been pleased with every coin I have purchased from them!

I agree with everyone here. I don't think they would sell a fake. The reverse just looked a bit bizarre and different than other years I was looking at.

this is a stupid post, if JJ Teaparty is selling the coin it is not going to be fake.
I seldom check PM's but do check emails often jason@seated.org

Hey, If I knew where that popcorn dude picture was, I would have put it there on my first post.

This coin is fantastic. Somebody put in the popcorn guy for me !
It's like I always say, ... 'tis better they talk about ya than not.

I think the Thread Title should ask the question : How much can you afford ?
  • I think it's a worthy post and a great endorsement for JJTeaparty and other dealers of integrity.

Often when posters are discussing how to buy coins, they always include "look for a reputable dealer."

BTW I have a few of JJT coins noted on my registry sets.

I like JJ Teaparty and buy from them on occasion. I do not think they would knowingly sell a fake. However, you should do your homework on any coin you are looking to buy even from JJTPRTY....

Stuff slips thru the cracks when it comes in the door and can potentially make it to the market place/display case with any dealer- even Teaparty.
