What new area do you plan to collect in 2007?

Or do you plan no change from what you are collecting now?

Anything you plan to drop?

We've seen some concept sketchs of the Presidents series. Have there been any sketches of what the First Ladies coins will look like? It would be great if the Presidents were done while they are middle aged but the First Ladies are done from their youth image

I'm saving all my money for the platimum W uncirc unreeded proof obverse business reverse first strike with original Fedex bar-coded box.

I don't have enough money to start any new series!

And besides, what's wrong with errors, half cents, and assay commission medals? Plus assorted exonumia and colonials. And books.

I'll probably collect the Platinum American Eagle 10th Anniversary set (assuming the 10th anniversary is next year). I'm particularly looking forward to the 4-coin set with the Proof, Uncirculated, Reverse Proof, and Reverse Reverse Proof (for you football fans, this will be called the "double reverse"image). The Reverse Reverse Proof will have a mirror surface on the devices, a cameo surface on the fields, and a sandblast surface on the edge. The price of the set will be whatever the Mint figures they can shake out of our wallets. imagePlease note this post is satire and for humor purposes only.

More early gold - if my ship comes in ...

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Well, I have no idea where 2007 will bring me. I had planned on starting my modern coin collection because I'll be heading off to college, but after a recent purchase my mind is looking to turn. I might start a CBHDime collection, or atleast buy my first one (one of the last few type coins I need). I just picked up my first Flowing Hair Half Dollar, it's SWEET!!!

I just want to get new dates and see what can be accomplished. I don't think I'll be buying as many coins this next year and probably won't spend more than $1k because of college and such.

Continue on my never-ending quest of pl/dmpl morgans. I also have thought of getting into ms62 or so early double eagles, those which you can get at a slight premium over melt.
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

I'm dropping toned commems and concentrating on more historically substantial coins like early seated, bust, and barber halves.

I hope you go for the CBHD collection, that's my area of concentration now, next year, the year after, and so on. I'll keep plugging away at the CBHD collection by die marriage and remarriage, along with an upgrade in my Dansco 7070 every so often.
  • Finish my type set, upgrade my CBH year set and continue dabbling in the Darkside (really want to find an Alexander the Great gold stater).
    Curmudgeon in waiting!
  • For 2007, I think I might start collecting bright rainbow toned ngc/pcgs ms65 morgans, Unlimited profit potential when one has the right colors.. image

777, there's even more profit potential when you start with white coins and make them rainbow toned. imageimageimageimageimageNote: This post is made for purposes of sarcasm only, I do not advise anyone to do this, it would make a MOCkery of the coins.

Actually, I'm having a hard time finding anything to buy.

In 2007, I plan on being a net seller of coins

You just may be on to something here. Try finding a few really nice with superior eye-appeal Battle Creek Morgans for the right price. I think those are the "definition" of Unlimited Profit Potential.image

Apologies to our gracious forum hosts, but I have been into assembling some small themed collections and getting them into multiholder slabs over at 'NutherGoodCompany (since they are not offered here). It's a slow process but fun. I plan to do more in '07. Also 2007 is my 10th wedding anniversary year so maybe I'll hint at a nice gold coin for my wife to buy for me. Otherwise I am still working on a type set and whatever other crazy collecting whims catch my attention.

I do know for sure that I am cutting back on new U.S. Mint offerings in 2007. Subscriptions canceled - No more proof sets for me and one mint set only.

Here's the latest completed multi-holder idea.
Maryland Error Quarter Set #1 (#2 is already in process but won't likely be completed until '08):

I'm thinking about focusing on early date proof and SMS Kennedy halves.

  • I'll probably try to continue my CBH date set that I just started, and fill a few more holes in the 7070 that I just started too.

I am going the other way, limiting my purchases going forward to only a couple of categories, mostly focused on the gold commemoratives (old and new). This year was way too much.

I won't be spending a cent on the politically correct 'First Hag' series, I can tell you that much!
    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!
