NCS results

I asked opinions on this forum a few months ago on what they thought NCS would be able to do with this coin and was asked if I happened to send it to them to post before and after pictures of the coin for everyone to see. Well they arrived today from NCS/NGC and here are the results of the VAM-81 I showed in the post

They did good, though it's disappointing they could not completely eliminate the spot on the eagle's left (viewer's right) wing.

    What did it grade?
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

That is now, one fine looking coin. Excellent work - now, if I see a coin I like, but it has toning (which I do not like), I know there is hope. Thanks, Cheers, RickO
  • it graded a MS-64 which I never expected anything higher because they have not graded any VAM-81 higher than 64

It's now a nice looking coin!

Was the cost of this service reasonable?
    When in doubt, don't.

I like it better before the conservation. But, that may simply be a function of the fact that I think white Morgans are boring.

Looks pretty nice. I was thinking of sending them some instead of starting with that sinking ship, ANACS.

I'm not a big fan of conserving coins.

This one needed it and is a huge improvement. A nice looking coin now.

The obverse looks a little better. I liked the reverse better before NCS got ahold of it.

NCS conserved coins just make me gag. They have a look of their own and yours looks like one. Sorry.

Let me ask you a question. Does the coin "really" look natural to you ?

  • Vast improvement; good to eliminate the tarnish...oops, "toning"!

I always laugh when people say that. What look are you talking about? I would venture that if you were confronted with 10 coins and new for sure three were NCS'd and the others were not, you wouldn't be able to pick out the NCS'd coins.

    in the after photos

the obverse has an odd matte like look to it
and just does not look like an original mint product it looks processed/unnatural and definately different than the reverse and the reverse looks like the typical aluminum ncs unnatural silver finish

looks like two different finishes on this coin obverse compaired to reverse

Read the post right under yours and keep laughing. Ten to one I could pick a conserved coin out that has been done at NCS. They have a look of their own. Remember, Keep laughing. OK ?

Have you ever sent a coin to NCS and got the junk results back ? I have and will never forget the look the coin had. On top of that a auction was won at Heritage in which no mention of conservation was made. Every darn one had been conserved and put into NGC slabs. If you want to see one I will send it to you so you can see what a mess NCS makes of coins.

Keep laughing. I'm not because they destroy coins.

I agree, reverse looks overdipped now. They should have left the reverse alone -- is that possible if one requests it?

Look closer, I see the same lustre in the before and the after shots.

Yes you can request they only conserve one half of the coin and if they feel the other needs conserved also they will call you first to convey their concerns

I'm somewhat indifferent on both the before and after coins. They before coin is not very attractive to me, and the after coin looks like any old Morgan. However, that is my personal opinion and if you're happy with the coin, that's all that matters.

I think I like the before coin, at least it had some character.....

The after coin is blah to me.....

ncs`d coins may have that certain look but, for those that prefer white(r) over toned
    its a good service.
....looking at that `look` it reminds me of alot of white white peace dollars.
i,m guessing those were ncs`d too?

So how much do they charge to dip a coin? A jar of Ezest is only about $4 and will do a whole bunch of dollars like that image

It looks more like it did when it was minted and so does the Sistine Chapel since they conserved it.
