I collected in the early 60s and stopped in 1972, (thats when I met the girl I would marry). I started up again in 2000 and have very much enjoyed the hobby since.
Since then I look at all my change. This find is nothing special but it does display the collectability of this series. This has happened to me several times: I'm checking my change, looks like a 59 at first, no, a 39. Clean, odley without the 80s to 00s dings and the "slot machine face". Since 1980 I've found some nice 1939s, even an ms63-s in change up in Klamoth Falls.

    Nothing special except "1939".

Just found an 1918 Lincoln (VG) in the penny bowl at the cafeteria last Friday.

Gonna be tough to top michael's bust half find!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

1936 Swiss Coin. They still have the same design, so the old ones don't stand out (like our Jeffersons).

A couple Buffalo nickels is about it for me, one was dateless and the other from the late 30s. Don't see older coins like I used to. However, the entire span of Jeffs are still out there. I get a silver war nickel about every 18-24 months on average. That is the series I would recommend for the youngest YNs, after or instead of the state quarters.

I have not found a coin older that 1965 in many years. It seems that even the pre 1982 cents are disappearing.

About 10 years ago my wife got a 1934 Merc Dime from a convenience store. More recently, I got a 1962 Lincoln Cent in change...in quite respectable condition I might add.

Found these while searching some rolls from local bank back in August, the 1883 was very pleasant surprise- had found the two 1909 's first. A weak later or so I found another Indian head in a roll-not as nice a shape or as old however.

1942, 1943 war nickels, several of each
    1910 Liberty nickel
    1947 quarter

  • In the last 5 years for me,

1899 IHC [On Monday night McDonald's gave me a 1950-D in change.]

I've already mentioned the 1912-D V nickel my mom found and gave to me.

In dimes I've found a 1954-D thanks to Coinstar

    Quarters--much worse a 1962

Halves - A 1961 that looks like it might have once been a proof and is now impaired

Dollars - Some 1964 Peace dollar that I spent before knowing what I had....

Actually for dollars just a 1972 Ike
Some call it an accumulation not a collection
