you're gonna dig it up every month?

It will basically be covered with deep black spots that penetrate down into the zinc layer. I had a friend who stored proof sets in a moist fireproof safe and this is what happened.
  • yep, every month and will take pics.

Make it a little more interesting and do a slabbed nickle, dime, quarter in clad and silver.....that would be cool

Could I ask why you're doing this?

Its an experiment in the durability of the plastic tomb....so we can bury people in them next.....along with the toned morgans that people pay premiums for.

I am hoping PCGS gets in the coffin business so I can se how well I will be preserved!!

Why do you think, it is a 10 cent coin, I was bored and wanted to see what happened. If you want I'll dig it up and sell it to yo for the economy grading fee's someone paid for it. So for $18 it is yours and I'll ship it for free.

Is the sole purpose to see what happens to the slab? Or does what happens to the coin count too?

    Or grow a penny tree!!!
  • I want to see what will happen to the coin and the slab, maybe I will burry and NGC, ANACS, and ICG slab too.

And if all goes as expected, that is how I want to go to my final rest; entombed in pcgs plastic, graded ag, and hidden away for all time. image

Add SEGS as well. According to SEGS, the only true air-sealed holder is their own.
  • It'll still look like pocket change.

It will be interesting to see how long it will take this item to become totally corroded.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • I think it will look good for a few months. Maybe even 6. Let it stay for a year or two. Then take pictures. Are you burying it in a damp location or dry location? Where do you live? Are you burying it standing up or lying down? All those factors could effect the outcome.

  • Perhaps you can put a "slab cam" in the hole. We can all watch. imageimage

  • Will PCGS be able to sue you because you altered the coin while it was in the slab?..(just kidding of course)
  • Not enough paint in the house to watch dry?

  • I once threw a slabbed Ike proof into the river because of an ugly spot it developed. Wonder how that coin is doing now? image

    I'd do it indoors hydroponically.
  • i think digging it up every month will not allow the coin to be properly affected.

When you get done testing the slab, are you going to test PCGS's grading guarantee? image

I think you're going to a lot of trouble just to waste money.
You could do the job faster and with less effort by tossing it in the trash can.

What money? It's a 64 -- might get a few bucks for curiousity, but not much more.

I think it's a neat little experiment. And fun. Looking forward to the updates.

I would've never guessed that about you.

    Definitely nothing wrong with that!
  • Remember to "personally" fertilize it at least once a week.

3 beers ought to do the trick!

  • Then sell it on Ebay and see what you get for it. It doesn't really matter what the coin looks like right? Just what the plastic says. It will prove how much the plastic is worth.
