It's a PF; you're not going to find a business strike with that kind of detail on the coin's periphery. Someone did an excellent job of ruining the coin. IMO, that coin screams AT and whoever ruined it, did a lousy job.
Avoid dark purple on copper like the plague. And remember, as others in recent threads have stated, while aqua is a hard color to AT, blue is very easy to do.

I agree that the coin is a Proof. As to the color, Proof copper coins from this era can change to odd shades, but I really don't like the looks of the obverse on this piece. It's got an odd orange cast to it.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
It is a proof and I thought it could be NT. The obverse looks like other NT toned proofs of this era that I have seen. The reverse is less certain but when combined with obverse likely OK. We are really a gun shy group now.
I just knew I'd seen this Coin before . Reminds me of artificially antiqued furniture or something. Glad to hear that most are not happy with this Coin.
Now that I see who owns the coin, I think I have seen it in person and that I tried to buy it on at least two occasions. If it is the one I'm thinking of, it is darker, gorgeous and very original looking, in hand.

(Edited to change NT to AT. It's too early.)
As for AT or NT, my opinion would only be a guess and I won't bother giving it based solely on the picture.

Doesn't look quite right in the shots presented, but I do like how the reverse color doesn't "climb up" the legend
