Interesting ICG ad

BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
I don't know if this is a new policy, but in the latest Coin World, ICG has an ad stating fees from any body bagged coins will be refunded. No slab = no charge. Now there's a step forward in customer service and fairness.

Oh boy, now Doctors can buy problem coins and test their techniques over and over until it gets into a slab without having to pay for the times it doesn't mke it.image

imageBad idea. Creates a profit motive for slabbing problem coins. And every yahoo around will start submitting problem coins because they have nothing to lose. Again, very bad idea.

They always used to charge $5 for this... now a full refund?

Cash back in hand? ICG does a good job, some day they will be a force in the coin biz. They need a good web site. They need a forum.

There is no grading fee but there is still the $5 per coin processing fee if the coin bags. Nothing has changed and this is not some new policy.

Then where the heck's my refund for a recent submission? I didn't get a check from ICG when the order was shipped back to me. I can't believe it...I'm actually admitting to submitting coins to ICG for grading.

They need a pop report. Without that all the other stuff won't move ICG more than an inch.

A submitter is still going to be out postage, so I don't see this as a big change. Postage both ways is usually much more than the $5 they used to charge for bodybags.

Thanks for giving us the "official" ICG word. Who is the lady pictured with you in your signature? I thought you were stuck on those rich skinny twins.image

Having to pay each time never stopped them before.

Compared to a full slabbing fee PCGS bobybag? (Either ICG slab vs PCGS Full fee bodybag, or a $5 ICG bodybag vs a full fee PCGS bodybag. I agree that because of the kool-aid drinkers a PCGS slab will sell for more than an ICG slab.)

ICG, ANACS!! More dough for me!!image

I bought a "coin" (1883 Shield) in an ICG slab a while back that was graded MS65; it's now in an NGC PF66 slab.....imageimageimage

P.S. this was an early ICG slab.imageimage

Oh, that is an invitation for abuse for sure. Wonder if this would also apply to a designated minimum grade cross form the real third world too?

I have a handful of ICGs among my coins, which I naturally consider for crossover to PCGS and/or NGC. They are pretty good some of the time. Where I see the inconsistencies are in the MS65 and MS66 area. There are a lot of MS64 capped coins in ICG gem holders. Grading is subjective though; so that is my opinion.

No, it was more of a moment of lack of better judgement.
