The coins I buy are raw and low quality; consequently, they are affordable.

I'll just take a lesson from the government and I'll continue to throw money at the problem.
  • Not yet, but I can say I see a lot more junk offered at higher prices.

Lets get interest rates rising and real estate bubbles bursting so I can buy more coins. image

I collect almost everything so I'm always priced out of some markets and getting
steals in others. It's a tough time to collect US coins but there are still some that
    are cheap.

It is a sad day when I drop 50 bucks into my gas tank and watch the needle drop ooh soo fast yet, there are still a lot of nice coins out there that are going into that stupid tank that should be going into my collection. It's all relative---- the way the people in charge (whoever they are) have it set up is- you start out with nothing and when you go--you got it--you end up with nothing-----so I am still buying coins no matter what THEY think.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • I rationalize the price of coins against the cost of a tank of gas too.

It makes them seem like a real bargain!! image

  • Come on Guys! Look at Ikes and Ike varieties..... Many can be had with some diligence and about $1.25 per at shows. Stop complaining and be on the leading edge of the next major collectible. Or buy rolls of Sacs/SBAs at banks and find decent AUs and some BUs and even a few Wide Rims. It's like being a kid in the local Mom and Pop's till all over again.

Shift gears and bring some fun back. Rob

I am not price out of the market, I just choose at this time,

not to chase coins. I buy nice coins,at realistic prices and

prepare for the worst that is to come. Remember, things always seem

fantastic, just before the final curtain falls.

It's not that I can't afford the current prices for the material I collect. Rather, I think that for the most part, they are so ridiculous, that I've bought all of ONE coin in the last six months. I don't even know if I'll bother going to the next major show in my area; if I do, it'll probably be to see familiar friendly faces, not to look for / at coins.

I've felt priced out of the market ever since I got my first Redbook at age 11. All these cool coins I wanted to collect but couldn't sell my soul to get.

In the meantime, I've had lots of fun with $10 to $500 coins 20 years ago this budget let me buy a nice Flowing Hair Half dollar for my type set. Now I've narrowed my focus to the Dansco 7070 and circulated Barber coins.

Changing focus to enjoy the hobby within one's budget is the name of the game. In the early '80s. when my prep school and college classmates were going to law school, medical school, or business school to prepare themselves for a high-maintenance lifestyle, I moved to Ghana. That experience taught me how to enjoy life among the freindliest people on the planet, even though there were times during hyperinflation when the local currency couldn't buy anything other than onions, peppers, or palm wine.

Tonight I had fun going through my duplicate FR and AG Barber halves trying to discern mintmarks which were 3/4 obliterated. If the economy really tanks andcoins become the hobby of the wealthiest, I'll still have a few albums stashed away for contemplation.

I'm convinced that there are no boring coins, only collectors which are bored with most of them. I can't afford to be bored with my coins.

Maybe the future for most collectors is collecting acid date buffalo nickels.
