$255 was not a premium price for that coin -- it is an 1878-CC. The buyer was probably hoping the colors were more vivid than the image. The actual coin in hand likely looked close to the actual image, which led to the "buyers remorse".

My main point was that no toning premium was paid for the coin, so the buyer most likely got what he paid for. And if you surely do not know what the coin looks like in hand, then how do you know it is a "dog"?
Let me state that I thought the coin was NT. Second let me state that I do have too much time on my hands today because I sitting in my driveway having my wife's garage sale because she has to work.
With that said, Islandcoins post is way out of line. His attacking of Russ is completely unjustified. I have reposted every one of Russ's posts below. All I see are opinions about the COIN, and opinions about the IMAGES, and FACTS about previous buying and selling by the seller. I don't see any personal attacks, name calling, or any other unacceptable posts.
This has been a great learning thread for many on this forum. Toning has become a very controversial issue in the market today, especially with the moon money being paid. For those who play the game, either take the heat or get out of the kitchen. I have the same concerns regarding the blues and pinks on the right and center fields, but I figure they are most likely due to the coloring of the image, and not the coin. I am giving NGC the benefit of the doubt as I have not seen the coin in hand. But for all the toning experts around here that is a legitimate concern, and to just write it off as unfounded opinion is simply irresponsible.
This is what Russ wrote in this thread up to the point where he was attacked and called names:
<< <i>Sorry, but that coin is blatant AT. Looks like something tonecoin2003 cooked up.
I'd like to see images of some of those coins in the holder. Many of them look like they made heavy use of the saturation slider.
Are these the same experts who agreed that the Peacegate coin was the real deal? We already know it's the same grading service. BTW, the images in the thread announcing Bear's purchase of the coin make it look closer to believable.
This may come as a shock, but it's also possible that we think the coin is cooked. If it displayed only the banded rainbow crescent at the left periphery, I'd be a lot less skeptical. But, I'm not buying that large area of funky blue at the right.
I was looking at this image when I posted that: (image posted) I didn't notice that the seller had also used the previous image shot by greattoning.
Keets, You may want to check that thread over at the other forum: The images are the same because he added them after the fact.
And, you would certainly know that, wouldn't you? (Feeback posted)
He bought many more than those during that time. He also bought plenty of PCI and NTC crap. He returned a legit NGC graded CC that he bought from me in a $1 no reserve auction in the fall of 2003, so I did some checking on his buying habits at the time. FC, I don't think this coin came from those purchases. My point is simply that those who are painting this guy as some kind of toning expert should be made aware of the facts. >>
<< <i> Update: I bought the coin today...in the $3,000 - $4,000 range. And I bought it underpriced, IMO.
So how about some new pics? And can you have it put in some kind of traveling exhibition? >>
The pics that Greattoning took (the second set in this thread) are highly representative of the coin and therefore I will be keeping them as my pics. I will bring the coin to my next major show to exhibit. Thanks, Doug

So, is this the time/price line on this coin: Bear buys it for, what was it, $3000 or a thereabouts? From you, right? Then it's sold at auction a couple months later for $1450, right? Now you've paid, well, that's quite a range, let's call it $3500. All this in little more than 1 year?
