Good eye. I always thought it was but it didn’t have the reeded edge, the true racketeer V gold plated nickels were supposed to have the reeds added as the gold coins. I think it’s a contemporary plated. The sad part is that it’s been removed as before the fellow collector passed he sent me a nice AU 1883 no cents. So I replaced it and can no longer find it. I sold off a tube of liberty nickels about a year ago I don’t remember seeing the “racketeer” in the tube but since it’s gone it might have been sold.
Had a roll I bought on ebay many years ago for a few bucks, literally.
I actually opened this roll about 2 years ago...I already had some Liberty Nickels in my collection but ended up with a nice little Liberty Nickel starter collection just from this roll

I attempted a set of them. Got 20 of them in MS 66 over the years. They are available in pretty much all grades below MS 67. Prices have cratered for them in MS 66 with the advent of the new holder and increasing pops.
Figure out what grades interest you and learn how to grade them. The 12 S and 1885 are the most expensive circulated coins of the series.

My one and only:
Coin Photographer.
I thought the same thing when I saw his post of his 1914 MPL. I guess he's just got talent. I'm wondering how both coins look in hand though.

Pulled these two out to share.
Not my first numismatic love, but I've grown fond of the series over the years.
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.
