That Burdette looks a bit rough. I wonder if he is in failing health? He sent me a some autos a couple of years ago that were sweet. I hope Lou is doing ok.
When you get ready to, let me know, as we are good friends. He is WAY behind on his fan mail, and I don't think he is too excited about the prospect of trying to catch up. If you send it to me, I can make sure you get it back.
Are you making those cards (the Braves ones)? Very nice cards!

That's incredible! Great collection! That looks like a years worth of work! The LSU cards are really cool and the George Blanda card is a keeper - he was one of my favorite players in the 70s. I think he played until he was 69 or so! LOL
Congratulations on some really great autos - the shear volume alone is incredible!
Great work Duner. The mini's are very cool but I just don't have the energy to do something like that or baseball's. Sending out cards is easy to do and they are much easier to store in my humble opinion. They take up a lot less room.
I hear ya B dub....minis are high risk high reward. They do take up a ton of space, but I think they present much nicer than cards. I actually sent my first full size helmet out yesterday. $200 for the helmet and $10 shipping each way....if it doesn't come back I'm screwed.
Very nice, BWF! Did you send a donation for the Dawson you've got? The reason I ask is I showed three of my nephews how to write letters and get autos TTM. I let them go through a bunch of my cards to find some to send, and two of them picked Dawson. I really hope they get a few back. They worked hard on their letters and each one of them ended up writing four, which is pretty good for a bunch of fourth, fifth, and sixth grade boys who hate to write.
Heres' my crowning achievement of TTMs....I had the Contoulis helmet specially made when UConn went D1. It was quite an endeavor, because their football history isn't chronicled very well. I chose Contoulis because he was UConn's first All American as well as pro football player. But it was next to impossible to figure out what his number was. I eventually found a picture of him and enlarged it....but his numbers were barely visible, and there wer a couple of possibilities. As a result, I was never quite sure if I'd picked the correct digits until I found his address and asked him directly. Ironically, while this helmet is the only one of its kind, the only value it holds is sentimental.
stone....they used to be fun to display, but no more. The wife got pissed, so they now go in the closet as soon as the box is opened. I just keep sending them out because I'm working on a signed mini for every university with a football team, and that's about the only way to get the last couple dozen I'm missing. It may actually impossible, but like everything else....I'm gonna go down swinging!
But, what % of the players require you to send them $/donation for their auto?
Seeing Mark Fid's auto sure brought back memories! What a character!
You have amassed one of the most impression collections that down the road will be the envy of anyone who is just starting in the auto side of the hobby.
Congratulations on some very impressive names! Down the road - I'm guessing that it's the commons that people will find hard to get IMO - not the stars. mike
Thanks for the kind words Stone. I have run across a handful that want donations but most go to some charity that they support which is fine with me. Players like Jim Kaat and Andre Dawson will sign but then also send info on where to donate. Others like Cousy, Hornung and Starr want it up front which is fine as well. I have gotten back 117 so far and can think of maybe 10 that want something to sign. I've actually just started sending to celebrities and musicians to see what there success rate is compared to sports figures. Maybe I will start a thread and show those as well!
Got my first success from my second batch of minis!
I really wish I got into ttms earlier....I appreciate the oldtimers signing my items...but it would be great to get sigs that weren't shaky, and alway have parts scratched out b/c they forget what they're signing.

I just started out sending out 8x10 photos. These are a few I got back recently. I didn't want to send out any of the often seen "run of the mill" photos, so I have been scanning some of my original black and white negatives and using Photoshop to "color" in the particular player I want the autograph of, to make him stand out. I have gotten good feedback from the players and some of them have asked for copies for themselves.
that kilmer print is GREAT! do you need a negative? any chance you could make 1 or 2 LSU photos for me? I'd happily compensate you for your time.
The OSU is Dante Lavelli....but ace parker did the same thing, and I've had other old timers fold cards in half... after they signed the back. then put it back in the envelope.
But personally, I love the oldtimers...there's just something really majestic about early football, in my opinion. Funniest thing I've received was a letter in response to something I wrote to chuck bednarik...and he basically said today's players are pansies. Those guys are great!
You just need a good high resolution photo for it to come out nice in an 8x10 or larger size. The Bednarik is from an image I got off the Internet. It was a high resolution image so it came out nice.
Having the negative allows me to make prints of unlimited size. I've been buying collections of b&w football negatives, totalling several thousand images, mostly Rams (late 60's to early 80's) ,Oakland Raiders, (early 1970's). Most are taken from the sidelines. I have been picking up some nice color slides from the mid 70's lately.

That Martin/Pettit photo is incredible, I think you have a fantastic idea. Truly awesome.
First request I ever sent out was to Patrick Roy in 1998. Got the signed postcard back; I was thrilled . Then I sent out a Chipper Jones card during May of that year. Didn't hear anything and completely forgot about it. 2002 rolls around and I get a letter looks like it had been written by an 11 year old with no return address. It was a signed 1997 Topps Chrome Chipper Jones.
Haven't sent out anything since... until last week. Caught the bug. Sent out a few modern baseball players: Greg Maddux, Rocco Baldelli, Tim Raines, Robin Yount, and I even wrote Al Kaline. This week I sent out Mark Buehrle, Barry Zito, Jim Thome, and Rob Mackowiak. Had the day off today so I wrote out 8 more to go out tomorrow. I'm sending Xavier Nady and David Wright tickets from games they hit homeruns in and cards to Victor Martinez, Fransisco Liriano, Jesse Crain, Joe Mauer, Huston Street, and Jonny Gomes. All the modern guys were from the 2006 Topps set. Bought some packs at Wal-Mart and figured I shouldn't let those cards go to waste.
Hope to start seeing some envelops coming into the mailbox soon. And if not, I'll just have a nice surprise when I come home for Christmas vacation. (Infact, I was thinking about mailing a ton out right before I leave for college again and hoping they accumulate when I get back to Florida. I figured to just get them out as soon as possible.)
I'll post a scan of the Chipper and Roy later, after my first success from this batch comes in.
