Think it is time to let this thread die! Another one that might have started out with a legitimate observation and gone to hell in a hanbasket. Why insult someone's team, really helps get the point across. Taking shots at valued members such as Stone will get you nowhere on these boards, good luck getting any responses from anyone in the future.

Hey Stingray - it's not my fault. I really tried to make a point that's all and I get drama for it. I am sorry about taking shots at anyone's team. I made an observation while I was at the Fort Washington show that's all. There just seemed to be an awful lot of GAI product in dealers showcases that's all. I did not mean to offend anyone and just wondered what everyone thought about my observation.

It is clear that you came here to bait someone into arguing the the PSA vs. GAI issue. The conversation always begins and progresses in this manner -

Miss Less Than 50 Poster: Hey what do you guys think about GAI? Don't know they sure seem to be catching up!

Board Members: Who cares we like PSA. Who cares we collect all graded cards. Who cares I holder my cards in XXX because they look better in their slab. Who cares and are you expecting to begin a heated argument? Who cares and how long have you worked for GAI/SGC/BGS-BVG?

Miss Less Than 50 Poster: Hey man why the 'tude? I was just asking your opinon.

Board Members: OK, now just go away.

Miss Less Than 50 Poster: GAI/SGC/BGS-BVG rocks! You suck!

Many of us think that your observation stinks. Go away.

    Next?

The reason PSA is so much more successful than the other so-called card graders is because PSA is the ONLY company with TRAINED and LICENSED, CERTIFIED graders! They're the only company that puts each and EVERY card through a rigorous examination for trimming, color touch and three seperate graders who much come to a consensus before assigning a grade. Every card that gets encapsulated in a PSA holder has received 25 minutes or so of careful, detailed examination!!

With the jokers "across the street," you'll be lucky to get some stiff they found with ZERO professional grading card experience (often times, a bag boy at a grocery store or something like that) grading your cards! They spend maybe 10 seconds looking at your card.

NOT AT PSA THOUGH! That is what you seem to not understand, Mr. Chazz..that's why the people her rip you for attacking the credibility of PSA. Each and everyone knows the good folks at PSA work harder than the other card companies to stay #1.

That's why PSA is the #1 grader when it comes to 19th century cards to pre-war cards and why it's the leader in top prices realized for modern and everything in between!

    This is what I'm saying.

Hey son, read again and you'll understand, or at least adjust your Ridalin dosage.

The moniker reads "SoFLPhillyFan". At www.usps.com you will learn that the abbreviation "FL" stands for Florida. Today's post is brought to you by the letters "F" and "L", although "F" and "U" are much more appropriate for the occasion.

I grew up in the Philly area and carry my allegiance to Philadelphia teams wherever I live. You should try it.

Now if you have a problem with South Philly, again perhaps you would like to stand on Broad St. and expound on your theory. I'll be there in a few weeks. Let me know the date and time and I'll take pictures.

Oh, and try the contraction "you're" for "you are" son, or ask one of your teachers on Monday.

    West Philly????

  • << <i>Oh yeah? Well why was the 59' gai 8 mantle going for 2K? >>

Because the dealer will wait for his price.

To him you may have been that person. By telling you that he has several offers close to 2K, maybe you will pay the price to get the card.

Isn't PSA SMR $2300 or more? What then is your argument? Mantles hold value and are usually never far from book, especially in higher grades. 85% and higher I would say if you checked. Also, 59 Topps is kind of an off year. I collect them but not many people do.

So 2K for the GAI really shows that the dealer wants a price, not the true value. Check with him at his shop or home and I'll bet the card goes for less.

Maybe you should invest in one of these "Blazers".

    59 Mantle w/ perfect edges!

    BVG 6.5 - Wow! Look!

BTW - I buy SGC graded 59s, crack them out and submit to PSA to save money. My collection is mostly PSA 7s at the moment.

I didn't read all of this Pulitzer-worthy thread, but it always amazes me how aggressive/defensive people can be when discussing grading companies. In a family with hobbyists, you could almost add the subject to politics and religion as an off-limits topic of holiday conservation.

Witty South Philly...how long did it take you to come up with that one? I ate my lunch and went to the toilet with my SMR and read the whole thing and I come back here and that's the best you can do boy????? C'mon son ...... this board difinitely needed somebody like me to stir things up once in awhile eventhough I was only making a simple observation.

First off how did the above quote answer my question?

secondly the key word in your statement "going" means it aint gone.

I suspect it will still be "going" at the next show.

Please, Chaz, GAI is a fine company. However to come here and make the outlandish comments that you have regarding them makes you look foolish.

    Steve
    Good for you.

Since you're the self-proclaimed "DADDY" of this thread, why don't you learn the following, from one of your "sons":

YOUR is an adjective, the possessive form of 'you' (i.e., "Your postings have consistently shown you to have no class, intelligence, or logic.")

YOU'RE is a contraction for YOU ARE (i.e., "You're the most illiterate person I've seen posting on here.")

Quit using them incorrectly. It seriously, among other things, hurts your credibility on here. image

    get it???

P.S. Still waiting for your rebuttal regarding the closing prices of key GAI vs. PSA cards. Got anything?

Let's not get carried away, chaz.

Seriously, though, I think PSA has a lock on the '50s through '70s - maybe even '30s through '70s - thanks to the Registry, but I can see their market share slipping with pre-Depression cards, which is pretty much what I collect nowadays. A lot of people hate PSA's ubiquitous mylar insert and the company's high-profile flubs don't exactly inspire confidence. The membership requirement turns people off too, I'm sure.

I don't know who will get the bulk of PSA's lost business, but I've at least considered switching my modest E collection to SGC. As for GAI, I've never submitted to them but have bought (and cracked out) a few of their cards. The grading seemed fine, but I'm unlikely to use their service due to a) the perception of a good ol' boy network and b) the fact that their gasket doesn't seem to be real effective at holding a card in place.

I like Mr. Baker and I want to think GAI is as competent as the competitors, but it's hard to not have some doubts when I see stuff like this.

I was outbid (or, actually, outsniped) for this card and decided to save a link to it when I saw who the buyer was.

    Then I see this card.

Notice all the marks on the back match up. The print dot on the coat, the little smudge over the 14 in the RBI column, and the little black dot on the left edge all match exactly. I'd say there's a pretty good chance they're the same card.

Granted, the first seller did say it was a high-end 7 with sharp corners and grades do change, but it seems to happen more with them than it does with sgc or psa. To be fair, though, most of the crackout results with gai cards reported on this board have been positive. At the very least, the cards weren't rejected. So, I don't know, maybe the whole thing is just a racket?

Type in Jodi-Mo or Moser in the search feature and you'll find out who the buyer is. The seller isn't the same person, but is one of the sellers that the buyer has consigned cards through before. And, obviously, I'm not saying the seller did anything wrong. I don't even know if the buyer did, but it's certainly suspicious.

Will you guys just let it go??? Quit bashing other grading companies (except PRO) with "suspicious this and suspicious that" cause it makes you look like a bunch of gossiping little girls. Mike Baker and Steve Rochi at GAI are good guys and they know the business. And quit bashing BGS/BVG for every high grade card they grade as being trimmed, I am tired of hearing it. PSA is a great card graiding company, we all know that but I have PSA examples that I have purchased that when you really sit down with a lamp and high power magnifier, you see inconsistencies as well. Can't we all just get along.........????????
