underweight morgan?
Hi Everyone !
Nice boards !!! Im a true newbie here and figured this would be a great place to ask a newbie type question.
I've come across 3 "morgan dollars" that on my little palmscale weigh 26.4 oz instead of the 26.7 that I believe I should always expect. Otherwise, the coins look normal in appearance compared to other confirmed-genuine coins (trusted dealer-bought), ie side by side they aren't obvious fakes. The underweight coins aren't worn... I know pictures are helpful but my picture taking skills are fairly lacking at this time. In general, is there any weight deviation that's acceptable here ?
Thanks !!!!
I should add my trusted-dealer morgans all weigh 26.7, so I dont think this is a calibration issue.

Edited to add: As to your question, Is the Morgan thinner? When you look at the dollar, does it look like normal?

Don't you mean grams?
Ray
I think the weight is OK. Do you have any pics we can view?
I am curious how any coin would "lose weight", I mean, I know it's only a fraction of a gram, and assuming the minting process is 100% uniform..
again, ill post pics.
I would also check the calibration on your scale to make sure you aren't getting an erroneous reading.

boy, tough taking good pictures of coins.
but just in the responses ive gotten I guess I can assume these things aren't counterfiet, and I can take them out of the "quarantine area" of my pocketchange !
thanks for your responses in advance !

The wear + the Mint weight tolerance would be more than enough to account for the 0.3 G weight differential.
By the way, welcome to the insanity.
Check out my current listings: https://ebay.com/sch/khunt/m.html?_ipg=200&_sop=12&_rdc=1
plus the +/- .1 g error of my palmscale ..
thanks for help
Weigh a silver eagle and see how close it comes to 31.103 grams.

Was there a reason why you resurrected this "6' under" old post?
