I sent a coin to someone famous and they wrote me back! UPDATE almost a year later...(in first post

Does anybody else feel like a coin can be a good luck piece? I do. I kind of think coins from the year your born are lucky. So I sent a cent I found from the year Bill Callahan, the head coach at Nebraska, was born and sent it to him. I met him once and he was really nice and he has had a lot of mean things said about him this year. So I felt bad for him and wanted him to know I liked him and was glad he was our coach. So I looked up when he was born, found a nice (AU) lincoln cent (it was kind of rose/purplish toned) in a bunch of old cents my grandpa had saved in a old sock, put it in a air-tite (I didn't want him to mix it up with his change, and sent it to him a week ago friday for good luck with a letter telling him I was glad he is our coach.
Yesterday I got a letter from him thanking me for the coin and all the trouble I went to to think of him. And said he was going to carry it with him for good luck! It really made me feel good! He also sent me a autographed picture and a autographed press guide.
I was really surprised! I wasn't expecting to hear back from him and I really didn't think he would send me something. PLUS the Huskers won!!!! I can't help but wonder if my penny helped!!!

UPDATE (september 1 2006)
This morning my Dad took me to the "Big Red Breakfast" and coach Callahan was there. After we ate breakfast he gave a speech and stuff. After that my Dad and me went up to him. I was really nervous but my Dad had me ask him if he remembered getting a lucky penny in the mail and he smiled really big and said, "Was that you that sent that too me? I still have it and I believe in things like that." I was so happy. He was really nice and it made me feel good all over again for sending it too him last year.

<< <i>Samuel, you are a son that every parent wishes they had. I commend your parents for the upbringing that they provide and you for knowing the difference between right and wrong.
I bet the penny did help!
thanks for the kind words! He is a great kid.

You should try doing that again. Hint hint.
You know something, I'm quite famous here at least locally. Hint hint.
I'd really enjoy getting a U.S. Cent from my birth year as a gift. Hint hint.
I was born in 1793, BTW.

I wonder if that would that work for the Jets coach.

Sorry, but I think finding a lucky penny in a old sock only works for Husker head coaches.

... ohh, and yes, I too believe that coins can be a good luck charm ... have believed it from the time I was about your age ... and still believe it today many years later

Because NU crushed Colorado 30-3 yesterday, they are now 7-4, and may have salvaged a respectable season.

Thanks! I know I'm only a kid but i hope it made him feel better and know that at least one person likes him and is glad he's our coach. I don't Think any body likes to get picked on and told their dumb and stupid even if their grown up. I think it still hurts. My Dad says, "Hurt people hurt people" but it still hurts to be made fun of so I hope my letter and that penny made him feel better and brings him lots of luck.

<< <i>Did you "DIP" the thing in Callahan Creek? I notice there is a road sign for that creek on I-80 about 15 miles east a Lincoln.
I drive between Omaha and Lincoln all the time and never even noticed Callahan Creek. I must be too busy trying not to get crushed between 2 semi's to notice it before.
