Today wasn't a game you expected us to win since they had the more favorable pitching matchup. I think we have the better matchup the next two games, so if we lose one of those it will be big trouble.
I dunno. I really expected us to beat Clemens today. The next two matchups do give us a bit of an edge, but I hate the fact that the offense hasn't really shown up. Though I guess the half-full kind of guy could say that despite that fact we're only down a game after losing a 1-run game.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
Almost a year ago today, Backe pitched 8 scoreless innings against the Cards in last years game 5 of the NLCS. I can only hope and pray he can repeat this performance today

I don't know. I think the last inning even though we didn't score off Lidge the team actually showed a little a fire. Carps on the hill tomorrow and if it comes home to Busch anything can happen.

Keep your hope up Card fans, they played about as poorly as they could have Sunday night and barely lost. If they got this game out of their system and Larussa removes his head from his anal cranium they still have a good chance.

Not gonna happen. I don't think it's a coincidence that's coached several regular season juggernauts that have gone belly up when it matters most. I don't know what it is, but I'm beginning to fear that we'll never win under TLR.
I told a buddy at work today that I didn't think the cards would win tonight because Carpenter had been a little shaky, but, if they did, they'd take the whole thing.
Similarly, I was at a bar last year when the Sox won game 7 against the Yankees and I said right then the Cards didn't have a prayer. NOBODY was going to beat the Sox after they took four straight against New York.
Tonight reminded me of Boston last year. Down to the last out against a closer who has absolutely owned them, I hope the results are the same as last year!
Great scenario, two games left that the Cards need to win or Astros have two chances to go to the series, depends on how you look at it. It will be settled on the field regardless of what happened last year or last night. I can't wait to watch. Let's all enjoy and to those yacking about TV ratings, who cares. This has been great drama and I hope the WS lives up to this.
and to think, the stros almost missed out on the playoffs! All those wins by the Braves and Cards and the don't mean squat now....afterall the best team is playing in the WS
I disagree with you about the hindsight of Game 5. That was one of the more memorable HR's I have ever witnessed, which made it one of the more memorable games I've witnessed.
cards had a very good year but i think most cards fans expected them to win it all. reality is that without rolen, the middle of the lineup is weak and old, also there are no power pitchers on the team which really hurts in a short series. changes should be expected.
I hope they're forthcoming. Definitely need to get younger in the outfield, maybe a little faster overall, less shaky in the pen. I'd also like to see a less tightly wound manager. I just don't think LaRussa can get it done in the playoffs. Did anybody see him snap during the final weekend of the regular season when an ESPN reporter asked him about McGwire's return to Busch Stadium's farewell festivities? When I saw it, it just seemed like a major distraction and a possible harbinger of postseason doom.
I was reviewing some of the highlights from last years series against Houston (I downloaded a documentary from MLB.com about the series), and I don't think we realized how much we missed Scott Rolen. He had 2 HR in Game 2, and the game wining HR in Game 7. He was clutch last year. He could've made a big difference in the series, and give Albert some much needed protection.
I can also think of 2 or 3 plays at 3rd base in this series that Scott WOULD HAVE MADE had he been in the game.

Perfectly turned double plays to get the runner by a hair to end the game - against the Cardinals.
A 430' shot to dead center being caught - against the Cardinals.
A 315' jam job for a pop up homerun - against the Cardinals.
And that's just in the last game.
Maybe the Cardinals can get a break or two in Game 5.

He swung at one similiar to Jason Lane, and yet his goes about a 1/2 inch foul!

Al Reyes also could've helped.
