ALERT - Bad 1808 Bust Half on eBay - Seller response in thread

CladiatorCladiator Posts: 17,920 ✭✭✭✭✭
As some of you already know I purchased an 1808 Bust Half not long ago on eBay and it turned out to be HORRIFIC. The coin was cleaned, polished and toned with the bright blue gasolineish look. The auction did not show these problems in the pictures supplied. Well, I returned the coin and got a full refund.

The seller is now auctioning off the identical coin again. This time with new pics that still hide the problems the coin has. Just want you all to be aware that this monstrosity of a coin is out there and to know the unscrupulousness of this dealer. The eBay seller name is "pmbcoinandmetals".

THIS IS THE LINK TO THE AUCTION

THIS IS A PIC I TOOK WHEN I HAD THE COIN IN HAND...100% ACURATE REPRESENTATION OF THE COIN AND THE COLOR:

Funny you should mention the seller, I was thinking about asking about them. They have some seated and Barber dimes in NGC slabs that look interesting, but the pics are utter crap.

    Guess I'll forget about them.

Some one from this forum say this thread and emailed the seller to tell him about it. I just received an email from him asking about this and I told him quite honestly what I had done and where he could go to see/read the thread about his coin. I encouraged him to join the forums and post about this coin and the issues that have been brought up. I really do hope he does, who knows...could be a good guy...I'd love to give the opportunity to let him give his side of the story publicly.

I will say one good thing about the seller...He did promptly refund my 100% of my money.

Not so fast there guyimage Even though the auction image before and now, doesn't show the coin
up close and that funky blue color... The image still shows IMO it is a problem coin. For the wear it has
there is a glossy look to it. It doesn't even look remotely close to an original look.
And lastly..... It looks like a POS you should have never went after in the first place.

OK, enough of the "Happy Talk" lemme know if you want to hear how I really feel about the situation. Hahaha

And one more thing.... be very careful what you say. Sellers only want to hear the good, and will threaten litigation
sometimes when the bad is brought up.

ST, yeah I know you can see the problems with the existing pics lol. They were very difficult for me to pick out at first and although I'm by no means even close to being expert in this field I'm not by any account new either. That being said I can see how alot of people that are new to busties could easily make the mistake of pulling the trigger on this coin and that is why I'm posting about it.

As far as being careful about what I say I have a policy. I only say the truth, it will set you free.

UPDATE - I have been emailing back and forth with the seller and he has pulled the auction and has signed up with the forums to come talk to us all about this. The guy seems to be a pretty stand up kinda dude so far. I have high hopes this will have a happy ending. I guess you have to wait for a while before PCGS sends you your password for the forums but when he gets his we should see a reply from him.

    UPDATE

The seller has emailed me his response to this thread. I want the seller to know that I'm not trying to make him out to be a criminal but I will call out a missrepresented coin when I see one...that is all. Like I said, the guys seems like an OK guy...I think this will all work out for the better. I'm going to post his response here for him so he doesn't have to wait for his password to arrive. Everything below this line is from the seller.

"I am waiting for my e-mail to join this forum.. This is PMBCoinandMetals.. I am not the bad person you are all making me out to be!!!!!

I have ended the auction becasue of the improper pictures... I gave the first guy the refund.... Please stop making me look like a criminal..

I have good feedback because I am a understanding person.... Not because I rip people off or sell garbage..

Some of my pictures are not the greatest.. I am sorry for that but you have to understand that I have taken 75,000 + pictures in the last 6 months and sometimes they just do not come out right.. I tried taking better pictures ogf this coin with better lighting and they do look better..

I am going to take better pictures of this coin before I relist as an auction.... Please do not black label me because of this.. I am a good person and a good seller....

As for those NGC Barbers pictures... They are also terrible pictures and I will be clicking those again too... The coins are actually really good coins though.. I mean they are certified by NGC

    Sorry for any troubles

    Nick"

Seems like the seller did everythig OK. Poor picture yes, but offered the refund as promised.

We all get crap in, if you buy coin from the public. You try to sell them for what oyu can.

As someone pointed out, this coin didn't look good in the pics (it did look better than your pic) but still rough.

Raw coins are tough on e-aby as we have all learned.

Hopefully the seller can join the boards and share his side.

I do commend you for trying to help out fellow collectors. I was merely pointing out that while you admit you're
not new to these.... you could/should take some responsibility for going after the POS in the first place.image

That's one seriously lame bust half... and I'm still having trouble understanding why it was relisted without a mention of the problems....
And Stman is right of course- people should be able to tell that coin was an ugly problem coin even with the bad pictures.....

Hello everyone I have just finally been accepted into the forum!!!

I am very sorry about the crappy pictures.. I am going to a photo shop to buy a light box to ensure all of my future sales have perfect pictures for my customers.. If you look at my feedback you will notice I have only 2 negative and over 2000 positive... I am also on Yahoo getting started there... Once again I deeply apologise for this and I am working on it right now to aviod this problem again...

on the serious side, Russ.....I concur.... It's a sad day when one does not disclose a problem and passes it off using a picture that hides the shortcomings or deficiencies. It shouldn't matter if it is a wheat penny or a St. Gaudens.
And for a PowerSeller..... well it goes to show you, the feedback rating or number of transactions is not a determining factor in what makes a good business man or woman. In defense of this ebayer.... a refund was given.........now make full disclosure and win back that reputation for being honest image

I am following this thread mostly because it seems the seller is one of the few E-Bay sellers who has some certified ancients - an area I would like to branch out into. Has anyone here had good experiences from this seller?

Congratulations! Not only have you proven yourself to be a scumbag seller, you have also insulted the largest, most active, and most informed online coin community. This should help your ebay tremendously. Good show!

The issue is that you relisted a returned coin after the problems were pointed out, and yet made no mention of such in the relisting. If we are whiners and nitwits for calling sellers out on this type of thing, then we wear the label proudly.

You may be a good guy, but the practice of selling a problem coin without noting it or having a descriptive picture is deceitful. Whether you lie outright or by omission, it is still a lie.

I an not going anywhere.. I am going to stand my by name strong and apologize for my mistake.. I should have noted that it was sold once and the customer did not like it. I did not think it was really that important... I will make it a point to do so when I have another person who does not like a coin.. How do I put a link to my auctions in my posts?
