Now the thread comes full circle, with my reposting of the coin that started the whole thread.
I found it the other day, BTW. One day I need to shoot a picture of it with proper lighting and white-balancing. This picture washes out all the colors- this thing has lots of pinks and oranges, with a hint of purple. It'll go off to PCGS soon.
Wow, that was a short-lived Darkside hijack attempt.
Oh, well.
1848, huh? Gotta borrow one from my pal Steve ("Millennium"). We were out detecting one of my sites when he dug this. This is how it looked when it came out of the ground. I had hunted the same site the night before and gotten a signal on that spot, but it was a beer can. Apparently I didn't recheck the hole well enough, 'cause Steve came out with me the next night and pulled this cent from the same spot. I did manage to get an 1876 Indian cent there, however.

France, huh? Okay. Here's a pattern. PN48, ANACS PR63.
Note the backwards "4" in the date. Silly Frenchies.
France to y'all... next!
(Or 1848, if the Litesiders want the ball back...)

PS- Steve's dirty copper is WAY dirtier than your dirty gold, so nyah nyah.
Is Seated Liberty Quarter close enough for same type?

Yup. That'll do. Arrows & Rays is a subtype, really.

1867 or Shield nickel. There won't be any Morgan hijacks... yet.
