Paquet reverse $20's--an awful lot of money for something that's not much different from the regular reverse

1884 Trade dollar specimens 6 through 10 are orphan coins-what good are they without the 1885?

I'll agree with the 1856 Flying Eagle cent.

I like the 1856 Flying Eagle. Only 1600 minted.

1804 dollar. They should be confiscated and put in a box with the 1933 Eagles!

You beat me to it! At least the 1933 Saints were minted in 1933. Also, please add the 1913 Liberty nickels, which were never monetized either (or is that an issue for minor coinage?)

They should be confiscated and put in a box with the 1933 Eagles!

Why? They were struck and distributed as intended.

(or is that an issue for minor coinage?)

    No - nor for proofs.

The 1895 Morgan and the 1856 Fleagle are both good choices.

In terms of supply, the 1877 IHC might qualify, but it has enough demand that it will have staying power even at its current price.

Another minor scarcity that's overrated is the 1844 dime.

    << <i>1804 dollar >>

    << <i>1856 Flying Eagle cent >>

I agree with both of these.

I would imagine the 1856 Flyers gained their popularity and value largely because they were listed in the Redbook while other patterns were not?

The 1813 half eagle. In fact, I feel so strongly that I am trying to take at least one off the market.
I'll even trade an 1803/2 for it (which is a very UNDERRATED coin) and pay or take more money to boot for grade difference.

All as a public service. image

Seriously, gotta go with the 93s Morgan. I don't think you could find a 15 minute segment of any day where there are none for sale.

I think the so-called common one year types are overrated:

    1883 NC 5c
    1866 Rays 5c
    1853 AR 25c

    and the like

Usually markets are pretty efficient at correcting things that are either way overpriced or underpriced over time. The 1895 proof Morgan however has been overpriced for so long that it will most likely always remain overpriced. I also believe that too many '95 proofs are in the 'right' hands.....those who will not allow the price to drop.

    Yes I agree.

With a mintage of over a thousand coins, the 1856 Flying Eagle cent is quite overrated.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
