I just had a couple graded that I thought had chances at 10s and got a 9 and an 8. image

Not too bad considering some of the subs in the past. I wanted to make sure that I tested my 'eye' for the '85s before sending a large sub in.

I sent 13 cards in from a recent wax box I purchased from Steve at BBCE. I am very happy with the 10 that I received. I am not sure what I missed on the 8's? I will have to check them closely when I get them back.

I have quite a few others that I want to send in, but I thought I better send a sampling in first. Here are the grades I received:

  • Nice grades Bunker. Once you see the PSa 8, compared to the 9's, you will the difference. Usually it's a little corner touch or white on an edge. LMk if you are interested in selling the PSA 10. You can PM me your price.

Wow, I had never seen one of those. Are they are bricks like the Donruss factory sets?

  • OUCH! I've bought a few of these "catalog" sets in the past and the condition was horrid. I've got them from 5 different sellers too and they all were about the same condition. I got my hands on some 85 factory sets about 10 years ago from a dealer that came straight from a case, the cards were some of the best 85's I have ever seen. You still had centering and print problems but the borders were amazing, solid BLACK. I nailed 30+ psa-10's out of 1 set a few years ago. The best thing about those sets?? I was buying them for $30 each, I only bought 3, wish I would have bought moreimage

i received an email from him...notifying me of "42" psa 10s for 85 football he has this week. he's got some incredible 86's as well. maybe he subs under 4SC. i've bought a couple of things from him in the past. i think he was the first to pull a psa 10 84 payton.

    Thanks,

Was'nt me but if anyone has a Todd Bell PSA 8 or 9 I would be interested.
  • Good day,
Bought a box from Steve and decided to try my hand at picking in the 85's. Spent 6 hours with a loop, and eliminated cards for anything. Box was outstanding and in any other set I would have been rejecting 9's I am sure. I came up with 79 cards from the Box worth submitting, sent them in under the special, so I'll let you all know how it turns out Next Year. Hoping for 10 each 10's, 50 each 9's, and the ones I missed something 8's, plus a couple of the stars were borderline 8/9 so subbed them just to see what I'd get.

And the Dave Kreig 10. 1/1, and a Seahawk. There were about 9 cards total, most 1/2 or 1/1 that ended early last night.

I hate it when people end auctions early, thats frustrating.

Saw your name pop up a few times as you outbid me yesterday on a few cards Frank!!!

Some good pickups to add to your 85 set. One of these days, your going to unseat MOSH

He always ends his auctions early if you offer him the right price. I once offered him $400 for a Danny White PSA 10 RC and his response to me was somebody already beat me to it. I asked him what he got for it out of curiousity and he said $500

I only won the Ramsey and just missed the Marino. I snipe on the Marino was $375 and I was surprised I lost. I have a box and 1/2 of rack packs to rip, but just haven't had the time.image

  • Fab,

Nice scoop on the 10's. Quite a fine set you have goingimage Hear ya on the time part i have over 200 to send in but cant find the time to get them in. My sample of 7 cards were 1-8 5-9's and the 10 dickerson. Montana 9 is going back for the bump! Ive been looking to jump in but not till i know what i have exactly lol.

    Matt
  • Matt- I have a nice cache of product to go through, just no time to rip open the stuff. If I already had them into singles, I would have them on the way to PSAimage

Those are getting tough to find Frank where you get them image
  • Those are getting tough to find Frank where you get them

I still haven't even touched the ones I got from you Art. I've probably picked up 5-7 more rack boxes, 2-4 cello boxes and acouple of wax. I also found 7 sets while I was doing some rummaging. I put them into storage and will tackle the unopened first, when I get the timeimage

  • Good day,
I have Poppage on my latest Sub- Mostly 85 Football Topps. Not great, but 32 9's and 7 10's is a whole Hell of a lot better than my last 83 Topps Baseball Sub-50 cards with no 10's. Still way to many 8's and let me tell anyone who wants to sub some of these I spent 6 hours going through about 1000 of these with a X10 loupe and this is what I got, so I would say the standards on these are pretty High !!!

Line 80-87 were asked for No Qualifiers beacuse of the centering on the OPC's so I am actually really happy with those.
Apperently I did not get the Grader of Death this time. !!!!!!

I just bought this set raw and will look for cards to submit. Other than the stars, any low pop tough cards I should also take a look at?

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Edit to fix typo
  • Jason, all cards in this set sell at PSa 9. Only the stars will sell at PSA 8. PSA 10's vary, but go for between $25-$100 on commons. A PSA 10 Payton, Elway or Marino will bring good $$. LMk what your submission results are.

  • I moved into 13th place this week...there is a lot of space between 12 and 13 so it will likely be a while before I make any more room as I work on too many sets.....8.61 at 22.98%, not very impressive...but not bad. I imagine I can go another 15-20% before I can't low ball the set anymore.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

i have about 160 85's at psa right now. Expecting everyone of them to be 9/10 materical except for some color discoloration on the front of some of them. Looks to be two different shades of black, anyone know if that will hurt the grade?

I will post results when available..

Who's got a PSA 9 '85 Richard Dent they want to sell me? Anyone?
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
