2 Cent piece inside: Anyone like the look of this one?

I have my eye on this 2 cent piece.

Whatcha all think of this one? Original or not? Whats the Average rate for a vf-xf piece?

I like the detail, but my immediate gut reaction says something is up/wrong with that dark color. I don't like 2-cent pieces that are that dark. This 1865 is actually quite common for 2-cent pieces. I would pass on this coin and get one with a slightly lighter planchet color. Dark brown is okay; I have some; really dark brown to black is not so good. Something is bizarre with the coloration in the shield. I'm wondering if someone tried to clean the coin and it was a job gone awry.

Portions of the coin look too dark to me too, my guess being that it might have suffered some corrosion or environmental damge.

I'm not Prethen but.....not usually. You might be seeing some cleaning which resulted in the lighter centers contrasting against the aforementioned darker areas.

Dang! I have a 2 center already but I was curious if these get a cameo look from wear. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a nice one.

Dark and crusty from corrosion. The basic grade is classic VF-30, but the surface problems lower its value to that of a VG to Fine.

Sorry, but this is not the look you want for 19th century copper. About the only area where this look is OK is for ancient copper coins.
