I was here from early 2001 (damn, long time ago)...I remember people like SkiVermont3 (QuikSilver77 lol), dirtmonkey, knicks644, Quasar31, duncangal, uwftke26, baljitgill, autobillia, Undertaker, ripkenfany2k, BigShane, epag64, weasal510, SoDoMoJo, cardnyou, JoeBenson, seth2720, Remster, batman34, RichyPF32, ahendi, Taylor28jag, NBAsteve, bradley25, pacmanssportscards, Jason, ChrisDaBalla, yanyak5, raf12, Moss84, ahendi, ljmaya, DaBeef, josher416, DisrealTV, SPORTSGUY247, danmarinocollector, KOBEcollector, jsa, c0llect0r, Lantz, KBryant1, vittleboy, Drock, Nash, vincesanity, Mpower, BigE, MightyMouse, jeffo81, scoutdawg, jbugs, akafocus, PSASPORTS, samsgirl214, euphoria18, JErik20, BECKETTSUCKS, jazz1232dc, playr050, metros69, Bobstar, battier, kr580, and a bunch of others

    • anyone remember that scammer Brandon Rusnak who used like 15 different names and kept coming back and ripping people over and over with new names

    • anyone remember that crazy guy T1Mac or whatever who came back with like 45 different names because he kept getting kicked out...he was freaking crazy about collecting sweat bands LOL

    • what happened to Trader Retreat? that was the biggest group of stuck-up jerkoffs ever...JSA and Mpower were some grade a buttholes

    • anyone remember when hitechkoolaid had a war against the akafocus and that kid who posted a pic of himself wearing the Philly hat and fake jewelry?

    • anyone remember how vittleboy would make a few good trades, then he'd rip a couple people off, then make a few more good trades until people trusted him again and then rip a couple more people off...then he ripped a bunch of people off and made up a story about his dad dying...then he came back and apologized and said him and his dad bought a card store

    • anyone remember when CU was a good forum with lots of members and lots of posts and you could make like 10 trades in one day easily? and you could make a post and get like 5 replies within a couple minutes

    • anyone remember when uwftke26 led a revolution which basically led to the death of CU being a good forum...where people were posting all kinds of stupid stuff and all of the cool people who posted regularly got kicked out...him and Lantz and JErik20 and some others started that Free Ballers club...omg funny stuff

    • anyone remember Bobstar and his fake son "CJ" and what a stuck-up jerkoff Bobstar was...whenever he would get mad he would always say stuff like "My time is too valuable to waste talking to you, boy! Later!"

    • so much other funny stuff

I've been out of the hobby for a long time, but I'm trying to get back in...I really just want to figure out what fair secondary market prices are so I can sell my card collection...there's things I want to buy and bills I need to pay and I have thousands of dollars worth of sportscards sitting around, I've been afraid to sell them since I don't know what fair prices are, I don't want to give people amazing deals or price them too high and not sell anything

This recap sounds like a WWF scorecard!! That sounds old, I forget when they changed the WWF name.

There were indeed some great times had back in the day. The late night chat room was an amazing time. So much alcohol was flowing during those hours.

I was not an early member of most boards , was spending all my free online time on ebay, and had to check my profile to remind myself when I did join this one. Turns out, TOMORROW is my anniversary here. 7 years. I think the Topps board was my first, but I have not logged on there in over a decade at least. Not even sure it still exists as a forum.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

I joined 2002! 18 years off and on! Met a lot of great people throughout the years! Frank Smith and Phil Apostle (DowngoesFrazier) are two of my favorites! All the guys from the Nolan Ryan Thread ( which I checked literally every 10 minutes! So much activity on here back then! It was so entertaining on a Friday night as they knew the 1 or 2 moderators were gone so it was free for all! Michael Wentz (missgoodadvice) was a riot!

I even miss the bizarre stuff. Such as the "female" member who I believe was posting and selling baseball cards and "she" turned out to be a dude. Great investigative work by vigilant members back then too. Those were classic posts.

Was this the person who was selling unopened 1975 wax/racks?

  • I was around from the mid 2000's. I think someone mentioned crazy ...... I think crazysc might be who they were talking about. he used to mass submit before 4sharp took over dropping 4000 ct boxes of sosa rookies on psa lol. who was the guy with all the disc's. submitted 10 of thousands. I think he had a deal with PSA and it was basically a way to promote the registrys back then. there were lots of vintage collectors that would discuss oddities. seems most of this chatter has moved to smaller more specialized facebook groups etc

how about that mikelowell guy, he was around , seemed to always have good stuff to post. not sure if he is still here

I recently have been popping back in more as I am waiting on subs. but the chats haven't lined up so much with my collecting focus so not much for me to add

I think you are correct. Just a strange dude but a great read.

Rube, CdsNuts (Lee?), lsutigers1973, Storm888 was amazing, you could drop the most off target question and subject and he would come back with a complete dissertation on it!

Lots and Lots....my first incarnation was in 2001 or 2...lost access to that ID, PSA couldn't link me to it when I rejoined this year since being MIA since 2013!

How old school are we talking?

I’ve been collecting cards religiously since 1992. But remember buying packs at the corner store as early as 1988ish...

I remember the good ole days of the Shop at Home tv show of the early 90’s with Don West!

Do I qualify as old school? What do I win?

But I’m a legend in the hobby... I revived the 90’s inserts and brought attention to them with my blowout cards forum thread of 90’s inserts. Before then, Jordan PMG’s were selling for $200. Now they’re $15,000.... smh

I am the notorious Giovanni.... or simple as “Gio.” Many also know me as Mr. SMH... (shaking my head). All bow your heads.

I think I joined in 2006 when I switched to only collecting PSA graded cards. I remember some but so many of those guys were before my time.

When I joined CDsnuts, lawnmowerman, Nam and a few others were the most memorable as well as ijustlovecards aka Felicia for other reasons.

Anyone still alive from the AOL Grandstand sports card forums of the late 1990's? That was a thriving community for a few good years. OTW Cards is the only username I've recognized out of the post history here, and he was apparently banned.

I remember when lsutigers1973 (Bill) had me rent a uhaul and drive across the country with him to fill it up with a collection that we got from BBCEmporium (Curt Schmidgall) I paid for the Uhaul and drove there and back. He negotiated the deal with Curt helped me go through it and pick the cards to grade. Fun times

Not quite sure exactly your point. I may have equated you with past accounts. If inaccurate you have my sincere apology. As far as taking anyone out, I never have and I was never in a posse.

  • Wow, this is an old school thread. I used to be jmmiller777 but lost my email I used to log in with, some here I am back. I don't have a lot to say, but used to partake in the early HERITAGE THREADS.
Remember bubblebathgirl? She was not liked but had a ton of info on cello/rack pack sequencing. Where's Walt? There were some great Heritage guys that would bust 2-3 cases and log the position of every card in every pack in every position, in evry box, in each case. Ya intense.

When I think of my time on these boards, I think of the group BBCE breaks and the Christmas gift exchanges. Both were so much fun. Fergie ripping 1979 OPC hockey and 1986 fleer basketball like it was 1988 donruss. I’ve stayed out of the drama for the most part, but have always enjoyed our community.

I do wish we could talk more about the way altered cards and scammers have infiltrated the graded card world. I know there is so much knowledge on here that would be helpful to have and share.

+1 for Perry; he was the best. As for a signature phrase, the one that comes to mind is "please die", usually directed at Axtell or whatever alt he was using before it, too, got banned. When Vargha got banned, I believe Perry also acquired the rights to "Heh"©

It was, for a brief time, truly an "open" forum, and it was a lot of fun.

This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

Been here since May 15, 2001 mostly a lurking around here now. I used to have the best Frank Thomas collection in the world but got sick of the high prices and bidding wars so decided to sell off my raw and graded collection. Now I am mostly

I post on a number of different forums out there, mostly politics. Seen it all, said it all...and i still enjoy it.

That being said, i have to say that Vargha was in my opinion the funniest poster I've ever seen, not only on this forum but on any forum, and there can sometimes be some pretty funny stuff on political forums.

Vargha's posts made me laugh out loud more times than i can remember. :)
