What the hell? Gotta pick something not picked yet, so...

    MS-60.
  • Working the way down the scale.... to the bottom with P01.

    Just kidding Torino. image
  • I'll get hell for this but if it was mine I'd probably crack it and give it a quick bath in sudsy ammonia followed by a nice soak in distilled water. Really gets rid of the crud.

I'll vote Au53, with the feeling that it's a trick question, if it is, I don't like that dollar as MS anything..

    TorinoCobra,

I was just playing with the other posters with the 35. The coin is softly struck, which is not uncommon for a 22-S. It has luster and nice surfaces, but I do see real wear on the cheek, neck, and rock, as well as light rub in the fields. I'd say PCGS holdered it AU-58. Many people try to grade these coins based on detail, but since the strike is usually lousy, its easier to grade them based on luster. Decent coin, despite the strike.

  • Although it's a "S" which usually have weak strikes, this one is really worn. It's actually between a XF-40 and a XF-45. An AU coin, you could make out the highest horizontal wing separation which isn't there in this picture. In a MS coin, you wouldn't have all of the wear so low on the eagles feathers or breaks in the luster as the obverse picture suggests. Since XF-40 and XF-45 are both taken, I'm going to guess this one is one of the 3 PCGS has graded VG-XF-35......

So even tho it's a XF-43image my guess is the grader had a bad day and called it a XF-35

How's that for a short answer....

Sweeeeeet!!!! Thanks!!! I just started building a set of Washington quarters. Still have a long way to go. Aside from not having this date/mint, it will be the highest grade in my collection.

PM is on the way. Thanks again!!

Thanks LucyBop, I had it pre-graded at VF35 when I sent it off to PCGS. When I saw that It came back an AU58 I was stunned to say the least, I need to study up on Peace Dollar grading! image
