Larry Abbott has left Heritage to go to Superior Galleries

What a catch ! Larry Abbott, one of Heritage Galleries top auction consignment directors has left Heritage Galleries to go to work for Superior Galleries and Silvano DiGenova.I have been informed he is starting June 1st.
Last month Superior snagged Paul Song from Teletrade. He has worked with coins for more than 15 years beginning as a consignment director for Sothby's.
The coin auction business will have to consider Superior Galleries because of these two new additions.Just when you think Superior was down and out they score two big knockouts.
Congratulations Sil

<< <i>Any particular reason he left the Evil Empire? >>
I am new so please don't mind the question but why are they called the evil empire?
evil empire
n. [from Ronald Reagan's famous characterization
of the communist Soviet Union] Formerly IBM, now Microsoft.
Functionally, the company most hackers love to hate at any given
time. Hackers like to see themselves as romantic rebels against the
Evil Empire, and frequently adopt this role to the point of
ascribing rather more power and malice to the Empire than it
actually has. See also Borg and search for Evil Empire
(http://pages.prodigy.net/rkusnery/amsind.html) pages on the Web.

Russ, I am generally in agreement with all of your signs of an impending market crash, drawing parallels from your first hand experience in the tech meltdown of the late 90's, early 00's...except this one. In business, especially the coin business, there seems to be quite a bit of shuffling around in good and bad markets. In this case, my interpretation of the two relatively high profile hirings by Superior suggests that the company is trying to right its sinking ship. Please dispel me of my ignorance on this matter.

High profile players stay put during down market cycles because those in a position to hire at major companies are reticent to pony up the money necessary to make the move attractive enough. In up markets, once those holding the purse strings begin to believe it's safe to make that kind of manpower expenditure, it means the end is near.
On balance, corporations are always late to the party at either end.

<< <i>Just more of the increased job mobility that is one of the harbingers of an impending market crash.

Thanks a lot Mr Russ. I am scared off now.
Their auctions have been relatively chaotic in the last few years, and the few times I looked at their lots, I was underwhelmed.

<< <i>First Simonetti, now Abbott. Maybe Rohan is next? >>
Simonetti's been a real pest with all his phone calls trying to drum up business.
Superior needs all the help they can get.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
<< <i>Agree w Roadrunner on this. He was probably offered a sweet contract and has enough $ put away so he figured he'd give it a shot. IMO, Superior was like a ship w/o a rudder when Steve Deeds left. Others more familiar with this organization than I am can comment further.

It's gotta be pretty sweet just to make up the cost of living difference between Dallas and Beverly Hills!! Of couse, he may be independently wealthy already, so it may not even matter.

Annoying, non professional or amateur hired hands don't help business one bit.

One of the biggest determinants of a coin market crash is a lasting recession in the economy. Rarely, if ever, does the coin market buck this major economic trend. And the recession usually precedes the coin market crash by 6-12 months.
