I love it when I pick a coin off E-Bay for less than the slabbing fee!

It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I bet JamminJ misses my "shill" bids (according to one board member).

While Mother's day might not be the best selling time, I really don't care about the price of any individual coin. As long as the overall batch is profitable I'm happy.

My US coins more than made up for the Panama 1/2B.

I lost big on every single coin of today's lot. Good thing I don't do this for a living.

Unfortunately, all it really shows is just thin the market is for many foreign coins...even nice ones.

    James,

I looked at the overall results (by both you and Greg) and indeed the final prices seem relatively low with a few exceptions. The key date German marks at fractions of their cat values, and an annoyingly high number of coins below $25. Only Russia and Greece seem to perform well everytime. Is timing that important?

It looks like the market is thinning out in some areas. I can't figure it out right now, but it seems Greek, Italian and Russian stuff are hot and German coins are cool. I've noticed I had to pay strong prices for the Arab coins as well.

I saw the key date German 1 marks that Greg was selling, but they were low grade examples and I think that hurt the prices. I see too many of them at coin shows in MS quality and that leads me to believe the mintages listed in Krause might be off and the prices listed to be high. I think the same thing about the commemrative German early 5 marks.

Timing is actually very important - you can sell a coin for double the price between good/bad sales times. We also suffered that none of the regular strong price buyers showed up.

My foreign stuff was mostly the so-so and I wasn't expecting much from them. Just an oipportunity between big batches to get some out the door. Usually there are many coins which sell for peanuts along with a few big winners like this which save the day. I have a better bunch of stuff up this week and will be disappointed if prices are again soft.

Krause is not a goood source for values of German Federal Republic coins. Collectors of these are also tougher graders than NGC and want only uncirculated coins.

I agree, and I just use Krause as a value range guide, though some of the rarer older German coin issues go for moon money. And my uncle usually knocks at least 4 points off any German coin that is in the NGC slab.
