No offense, but does anyone else find this distrubing..

MadMartyMadMarty Posts: 16,697 ✭✭✭
That Cameron (congrats on the job), has a link to ICG in his siggy line? I'm sorry, advertising for another grading company on CUs forum is just wrong! That would be like me going to Xerox's forum and advertising that I work at Canon. Very poor taste Mr. Kiefer.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • What? You don't advertise for NGC with the almost daily posts about the grades you got at NGC? Come on Marty.

Marty doesn't work for NGC. That's the difference. IMHO.

I think he's got you on this one. Give Cameron his due, he's earned the opportunity and I doubt if it hurts PCGS in anyway.

No. ICG has been great and allowed me to post here. PCGS has allowed me to post here also and not banned me like some members think they should. I don't want to start any trouble and I just want to talk coins with my friends.

Cameron - In that case, you should also remove the link for SampleSlabs.com. After all, you know that some of us find it distrubing that you are advertising plastic in a coin forum.

Advertise To make public announcement of, especially to proclaim the qualities or advantages of (a product or business) so as to increase sales.

Cam...with the grades he gets, are you sure you're using the word "advertise" properly?

IMO, there are far more serious things to be "disturbed" about, in my life, in the world and in numismatics.

So maybe "inappropriate," yes...but not "disturbing."

I thought it was unusual to see a plug for the ICG website. I don't think it was appropriate. I would not wear a Chevrolet bow-tie T-shirt while I was working at a Ford dealership. Cameron did the right thing. Now if he can stop posting those two girls with the training bras......

Marty please send me a xerox copy of your Canon regulations.image

I never saw it but would have to agree that it's probably not in the best of taste for here but I'd also have to partially agree with Kiefer because I find it in similar taste to post and boast about NGC grades on this forum.

I did not even know it was there until Marty brought it up!

Does someone on a PCGS forum going to buy ICG products because of a sig line?

That cook Island coin with the Hat on Martys Icon could be disturbing to some as well, should we ban that too.

Something about this thread is very disturbing to me.

Think about this. If you were the people at ICG, would you want your graders posting such things on a coin forum operated by the competition??

Cameron is a nice fellow and an intelligent one at that. But, there comes a time in your life to stop doing certain things and move on. Whether you like the pictures of the girls or not, it shines a bad light on his employer!
  • I still don't understand how before Cameron went to work for ICG they were the biggest joke in the industry...Now all of a sudden, it's a great company and he has yet to grade a single coin. I wonder how many here would REALLY buy coins in those slabs...

ICG was never the biggest joke in the industry. I think they overgrade high-end MS coins, but they are far from a joke and other than coins designated MS-65+, I think they're quite good.

You buy coins in any slabs as long as they fit your purpose/goal.

I should add: Many of the nicest slabbed AU-58 coins I've seen, for example, are in ICG plastic. On average, I've found ICG 58s to be nicer than ANY other TPG's 58s.

This thread was never ment to bash IGC, only to mention MY opinion that Cammy shouldn't be advertising it in his siggy.

OK. I misinterpreted your intention. My apologies.

May I add that I do not feel this is at all disturbing and that so long
as it is OK with CU (who is paying to host this forum) it is OK with me.
If CU feel threatened by a competitor posting on their forum, they can
notify the individual or take whatever action they feel is appropriate.
I hope they don't because I think its valuable to have opinions from all
    parties here.

I didn't find it disturbing, but I did feel that it was inappropriate. Indeed, given that CU/PCGS now takes money for banner ads on the board pages (remember that whole brouhaha?), I think any commercial advertisement in a post or sig is questionable. Why should Northeast Numismatics pay for a banner when someone can just post one for free? Advertising for a direct competitor is definitely over the line.
  • BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
    2 things....

I didn't see the sigline in question, but if it was an advertisement, it is understandable to remove. If it is stating that he now works for ICG, then I think it should stay as that is truth and will keep people from mouthing about his intentions (Cameron is honorable but there are a lot of people here that just delight in trying to create/find flaws with every little thing he does). Seems he is damned if he does or doesn't.

The 2nd thing is that Marty could easily have asked Cam about this in PM and not public. It was most likely done for some public bashing. It got the job done.
I think, unless you really really don't like the person, that something like this should be started in email/PM and then, if you REALLY have a problem with it and the other person does nothing, then you post it.

But, that is just me and how I would do it.

btw....this is post 2998 or 2999 for me, isn't it? image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
