Putting Impeached Presidents on Coins?

If legislation about putting all Presidents on the dollar coin passes, I think there should be a caveat. Impeached presidents are distinguished. No, not like a distinguished man, like standing out. Perhaps a lettered edge with impeachment date and offense. Then it could be a separate type for type collectors....

I guess that could be offered in a "proof" set?

Brian, you might need to explain impeachment.

Unless I forgot some history, that would be a 2 coin set -- Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. What a pair!!
Andrew Johnson
Bill Clinton
Long lasting accomplishments...
Johnson purchased Alaska from Czarist Russia in 1869.
Clinton??? let me get back to you on that.

I don't care. Nixon resigned because he was about to be voted out of office. He was guilty as sin and as arrogant as the devil.
Clinton was probably not guilty of an impeachable offense, but he was convicted of perjury and disbarred.
Andrew Johnson was a racist, ham handed politician who has since gotten his whipping from historians.
Among the other “failures” we have poor drunken Franklin Pierce and sneaky James Buchanan who presided over the nation as it slipped into Civil War. AND there was poor old Warren G. Harding, who at least KNEW that he was in the wrong place. We should give him a couple points for that.
Some presidencies just don’t rate a coin, but I guess we might end up with some.
The poor guy served only one month because he died of pneumonia from standing in the cold weather at his inauguration. It's not his fault, but he did nothing because he did not have time to do anything!!
Howver, if mintages are in proportion to term in office, this will be an instant rarity!!
<< <i>How about the William Henry Harrison coin, honoring a real do-nothing President.

Some historians now have the nerve to rate old William Henry Harrison as a failure. I think they are motivated by the fact that they are fans of Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren.
What a crock! William Henry should go down as a "no count." He never had a chance to do anything.
Increased the Social Security Tax
Increased the Retirement Age.
Took away deductions for interest on cars, credit card, boats, everything except houses (they tried but failed).
Borrowed so much that 10% of our current taxes goes to just paying the interest on what was borrowed.
That's Reagan, the biggest gouger of the middle class ever!!
Personnally, I could care less if someone is cheating on their wife. Clinton always did have a smile on his face.
<< <i>I'll tell you who shouldn't be on a coin. That is the Presidents that created the largest deficits ever, for which everyone’s current taxes are higher for, because we are still paying for the interest on it.

I'd say that you swimming up stream with your liberal views about Ronald Reagan, pilgrim. Even the liberal news media doesn't want to bash him any more. If you knew where the country was headed during the Carter Administration, you would have an appreciation for what Ronald Reagan did for America.

On Saturday 19 December 1998, President William Jefferson Clinton was impeached by the United States House of Representatives, becoming only the second President in U.S. History, and the only man popularly elected as President to have been so charged.
The House voted 228 to 206 to approve proposed Article I of Impeachment (Perjury before a Federal Grand Jury), and voted 221 to 212 to approve proposed Article III of Impeachment (Obstruction of Justice).
Which one of us is "stupid?” The I know that most liberals think that we red state folks are stupid, bigoted, warmongers. I was just curious about who got the low IQ test.
After 14% interest rates and 18% inflation from the Jimmy administration (Au $800/oz; Ag $45/oz in 1980), Reagan appointed infaltion hawk, Alan Greespan to head the Fed and for the past 20+ years, the dollar has been stronger than ever. Succesive Presidents: Bush Sr., and Clinton have coasted durning strong economic periods due to Ronnie's appointment.
Deficits were high in the 1980s but so were tax revenues. Which proves that supply side ecomics stimulates growth and generates more taxaale money. The reason for the high deficits: spending. The Dems still had free reign of the House so they can share the spending blame.
As for Nixon, he was trying to coverup a 3rd rate burglary job. To his credit, he'd rather resign than face the shame of an impeachment as for Clinton, the man has no shame: blatant sexual infidelity, selling satellite technology to the PRC, shady land deals, allowing Al-Qaeda to grow in power, making us more reliant on foreign oil, etc.
What do Reagan and Andrew Johnson have in common? Both Presidents were instrumental in winning the Cold War. You thought the Cuban Missile Crisis was bad, imagine if the USSR had retained control of Alaska?
Anyway to keep my post coin-related...
Why do we still have FDR on the dime? Next year, it will be SIXTY YEARS! In truth, I'd like to see more classical designs similar to the Mercs rather than ANY President.
As for the First Ladies coin, Jackie Kennedy (c. 1960) gets my vote.

Andrew Johnson was a political tool from the start, a Democrat-turned-Republican-for-votes who didn't play the role very well. His lack of compromising ability caused him to take issue with every measure the Radical Republicans presented. But... Let us not forget the act that got poor Andy impeached... a bill passed by Congress, later decreed unconstitutional, that forbade him from changing his own cabinet members, who were truly his political nemeses. He was essentially baited into impeachment by a Congress that could override his veto at any time, and was looking to place into office a puppet who would give some sort of justification for the measures they passed.
Oh, and while Johnson was the president, it was Secretary of State William Seward who was mostly responsible for the purchase of Alaska. In his own time, he was ridiculed immensely for the act.
Bill Clinton's situation was a bit different than Johnson's, but was also the result of political machinery attempting to take down a president because of dislike for him, rather than because of any serious high crime.
In both cases, it is the Congress whose act seems the more dispicable, nonwithstanding how easy it is to dislike the president. In Clinton's situation, Congress' actions seem all the more deplorable when it was evident long before the "trial" how frivolous the charges were, and that there was no chance of ever obtaining a 2/3 majority to vote him out of office. Senators went as far as, the day before the vote, demand/beg that he resign, since they knew they had no chance of ousting him.
We've had worse presidents than Johnson and Clinton. It'd be hard to say we've had better ones than Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, or Roosevelt. Maybe Woody Wilson or Teddy Roosevelt, but that's about it. The rest of 'em can stay off our coinage, I'd say.
<< <i>I don't want any President on our coins. alive or dead, impeached or unimpeached, impeachable or unimpeachable. They got it right in 1789 when the legislation authorizing the US mint designated that an emblem of Liberty be placed on our coins. >>
That is so true.
BTW, I am still waiting for TR to appear on something... so if they can't do it sensibly, then drastic measures do not seem all that unreasonable.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Or lieing about reasons for starting a war?
and why hasent there been a third impeachment?
Sorry I'm off topic.
As for coinage, I like Ike, I like Kennedy, I like FDR, For a new coin how about mount rushmore. adding Teddy wouldnt hurt.
(Priest) BLASPHEMY he said it again, did you hear him?
When did this happen? The question was did he have "sex" which by the definition before the court did not include the above.
I realize it comes down to semantics but you may or may not be alarmed at the number of young people who don't classify the above as "sex".
Joe.
It's still not as bad

So a liberal view is not liking that I could once deduct all interest from credit cards, cars, boat, student loans, etc; and now I can't. Now I'm confused.

--By the way, all you right-wing gun nuts... the guy who attacked us was Osama Bin Laden. Bush is on record saying that he doesn't consider Osama any more of a threat than other terrorists. Meanwhile, Osama continues to laugh at us and plot his next attack.
And Clinton was impeached only because the Repubs are willing to misuse the constitution for their own political vendettas. If the Republicans had an ounce of integrity, they would have impeached their Bush for lies that have killed 1500 Americans. Clinton only lied to cover up an affair and hurt no one but himself and his family.
What would you give Pat Paulson? He ran a few times.

This is such a myth. The AMT sucked away the benefit of the Bush tax cut for most of the "rich". However, nobody in the Bush administration points this out as it would bring attention to the AMT problem.

impeachment is just a political process, and nothing else. If you look back on that entire process, even if you detested Clinton, how can you cay it was anything but a political witch hunt.
Whatever happened to Oliver North and his boys who sold weapons to Iran and subverted congress to funnel money to S. American rebels
<< <i>Clinton didn't accomplish anything? Let me think about that one...
--I vividly rmember 8 years of peace and prosperity. - 8 years of sucking up to the likes of those that flew planes into our buildings on September 11, 2001
--He balanced the budget and we were beginning to pay down the national debt. - by pulling the money out of the social security system
--We were still respected in world. - BULL CRAP, we weren't repected, we were laughed at, silently so we didn't hear it.
Under the Shrub:
--Huge tax cuts for the rich - Tax cuts for those that pay taxes, not a give away to poor (sorry if that steps on your f-ing toes)
--Ballooning deficits that have put us back on the road to ruin. - Yes we have deficits, we can and should cut spending, but then what services are the people willing to do without?
--An unnecessary war that had nothing to do with 9/11, and that has so far killed 1500 Americans and maimed thousands more. How long before Bush's stupidity has killed more Americans than Osama? BULL CRAP - it all has to do with 9/11, and that is becoming more and more clear with each passing week.
--By the way, all you right-wing gun nuts... the guy who attacked us was Osama Bin Laden. Bush is on record saying that he doesn't consider Osama any more of a threat than other terrorists. Meanwhile, Osama continues to laugh at us and plot his next attack. BTW, you left wing idiots, OBL was only one of the the people involved, there was money from Saddam, there was support from Palestinians and other groups. Wake up.

To make matters even worse,
1. Clinton never even knew Monica!
2. When Jim McDougal mysteriously died from lack of medicine, well that was just chance because McDougal never met Clinton either.
3. Bill was from Hope, AR.
4. Bill was not such a bad governor that he lost re-election to a Republican.
1) Jimmy Carter on a new coin shaking the hand of Hugo Chavez, certifying the most fraud-ridden election in the Western Hemisphere outside of Cuba in the last 50 years, guaranteeing who knows how many years more of misery for the people of Venezuela.
2) Richard Nixon on a coin stating "I am not a crook."
3) Ted Kennedy on a coin wearing a lifeguard outfit (you could have two varieties, with and without the beer gut; I think the latter variety would be more rare).
4) Al Gore on a new coin, throwing ballots of overseas military personnel in the trash, stating "every vote for ME counts."
5) Bring back the 1/2 Cent. Put Bill Clinton on it. The slogan should be, "would you buy a used car from this man?" Michael Jackson should be on the reverse of this coin. The reverse should read:
Male?
Female?
Extra-terrestrial?
Other?

"Sou Mangueira......."

Hey GoYankees, take it from an American living overseas. The dollar is not stronger than ever! It used to be more than a euro. Now it takes about $1.32 to buy a euro.
