Where do you buy most of your coins from???

Local coin shops, internet dealers, E-bay, local or national shows, CU members, US mint, black market ?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I mostly buy from internet dealers: Legend, Whitlow, Pinnacle, Steve Estes and occasionaly E-bay

Ebay and local shows (there's one near me that they hold twice a month).

About 60% eBay and the rest split between shops and shows.

Most of my high grade, ass kicking stuff comes from Russ!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • It used to be primarily eBay and may get back that way again but right now most of my purchases have been from Heritage and I just won a coin from Teletrade Sunday night. I'm also eyeballing a couple of cool looking coins in the upcoming Superior Galleries auction via eBay & their catalogue, Pre Long Beach or something.

Heritage and to a more infrequent extent eBay

Sometimes online dealers and less frequently shows. (Aren't THAT many shows nearby)

    Private contacts image other collectors.

Never was able to score a coin for my registry set from a local dealer.

All over. But now it'll be probably just a couple of dealers.
  • Ebay, Teletrade and Heritage in that order.
Coin shows are to far and to much trouble once there.

I buy 95% of my coins and tokens for my colleciton and my business at shows. The U.S. Mint is a distant second, and eBay is an ever more distant third.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Other collectors, a dealer in Florida, but rarely at shows.

It is easy to find nice coins, but it is hard to find someone who will sell them to you at a good price.

I have 3 good coin shops within a 20 minute drive and that's where I buy 98% of my coins. Probably a 50, 30, 20 split between those 3 the way it works out.

The other 2% have been purchased at Coin shows......mostly from one of the local dealers who shows!

I've bought a few coins off Ebay, but I find that even the slabbed coins aren't ones that I would have bought if I had a chance to hold it in my hand first.

    Just my thoughts.

  • I buy from my local dealer but his coin stocks are low for being the largest dealer in NC. Seems many dealer's cases are stale. I don't buy much off eBay anymore. Too risky.

By volume of coins purchased, 90% from ebay.

By value of coins purchased, 90% from Heritage.

By eye appeal of coins purchased, 90% from collectors, board members, and select non-auction house dealers

    Just did the math-

    65% eBay
    30% Coin Shows
05% Other (internet, U.S. Mint, etc)

If it wasn't for eBay I wouldn't have found some of the best pieces in my collection.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
