This should be fun. Give me your predictions about coins you thik will be hot in the next decade. This is not meant to start a flame war about being a collector vs investor. I just want to hear people's opinions. This is meant for fun, not investing advice!

I'll start! I think people will begin moving into undervalued areas like 19th century proof. Why? Well...why not!
Nah, actually I think there is little demand now but that maybe prices for other things will start going too high it will force others to look at more undervalued areas.

Of course..what do I know? I'm just a collector!

This isn't really anwering your question but I think with the millions of new collectors that they say is coming into the coin hobby it's possible that we could see a market like we are in for the next decade or even get stronger as the new collectors get more into the more obsolete coins.I've heard that if only 1% of the new collectors turn into long term serious collectors it would be a boom for the hobby.

The only coins that will be "hot" will be key coins, as they are the only hot coins now.

Limited early bird admission passes will be the "hottest" mover in the next decade. Coin show organizers will learn that with over 85% of dealers leaving after the first day, demand for the "early bird" pass will begin to surpass coin show capacity and organizers will have to limit pass sales. Soon demand for the early pass will be exceeded only by the recently discovered short-horn left and short horn right buffalo by a collector named MadMarty, on the $10,000 paladium proof commemoratives honoring Alan Greenspan.

Selling the early bird passes on eBay will get off to a rocky start, when speculators buy all the 2012 FUN passes and refuse to sell any. While this will lead to many irate collectors unable to enter the show on early bird day, dealers will be pleased as many are able to leave before noon on early bird day. Collectors soon realize that these 2012 passes are highly collectable which leads to the latest modern collectable - early bird passes. The ANA following the past example of the US Mint, will declare that sales of early bird passes will be limited to two per person and will be sold six months in advance which will restore collector confidence in coin shows.

In 2014 counterfeit early passes manufactured in China, will cause chaos at the Spring Long Beach show as over 50,000 collectors will be present at the start of early bird day. PCGS and other TPG will seize on the opportunity and will certify early bird passes which will soon restore confidence and add credibility to the early bird pass market. Registry sets for early bird passes will be established by 2015 and within three months, will set a record for most participants. Despite unprecidented demand to do so, PCGS will remain adamant and will not allow any other TPG passes in its registry.

I'm still learning, and have no good evidence to support this. I think that Memorial Lincolns and State Quarter Proof Sets will see significant increases within the decade. Or, everything could go in the toilet.

I think the influx of new collectors brought in by the state quarters will realize these coins are not rare in any way and will discover there are some very low mintage coins to be had at reasonable prices- such as $2 1/2 liberty's of the 1890's. I think the race will be on for these low mintage coins and they will be marketed heavy. mike

Whatever I decide to start, after I finish my Morgans this year, will be hot. I will begin with a few coins and then that series will skyrocket out of my range.

The rare mule with the head from the 2007 George W. Bush Half dollar (You don't have to wonder why/how he replaced Kennedy as the latest President on a coin) and the 2006 Hilary Clinton Commemorative Half Dollar (You have to wonder how/why she got on a coin). It'll be the biggest thing going. Very popular in Europe.
