  • Looks MS64/65, but unfortunately it was shot at one of those "doesn't show the scratches" angles thus making it tough to decipher a grade.

All in all, it looks frosty with some desireable original toning. def not bad for a semi key. well done!

    I'd guess MS65, at a minimum.

  • Looks pretty clean... 66 if it has nice luster, maybe 67 with outstanding luster and a lack of hits... angle is bad for deciding FB or not...

    I'd have skipped ... looks like a little cheek rub ... AU58

For your sake, I hope I'm wrong. The image shows what appears to be an uneven strike (could be lighting) re the reverse fasces. Miss Liberty's hair does not look stongly struck. If I'm right, this is a problem; I used to collect this series in the 1960s, and the 31 S usually has a good strike.

I think you bought an unattractively toned AU coin. I think the seller gave you an MS 64 price in the description, hoping that you'd think this coin might 4. If he thought the coin was a 4, he would have slabbed it. I have some low graded Unc. Mercs that look better than this one.

I agree with the seller MS64 and not FB.

The two places I check on a Merc first suggest that this coin is mint state. Outside of that its very hard to tell anything else from that photo.

maybe the pic but, the coin looks flat in that i see no luster whatsoever.
if it is `flat`it could have been due to a cleaning (with the wrong solution, like ammonia.)
pcgs, and ngc would surely bb it if what i,m seeing is right.
anacs may net it down abit for the cleaning to....a au50 something i guess.

anyway i agree with elcontador about the seller having it slabbed if they
truely believed it was a 4 or better.

I think you got a darn nice dime - I don't care for the dark areas but overall the dime looks really original . I'd say MS-66 would NOT surprise me at all - this dime has the look.

    Nice catch image
