Did you spend way over your coin budget for 2004?

In Jan 2004 if someone told me what I was going to spend on coins that year I would have said YOU ARE CRAZY! No way that is going to happen.......

Actually, no. Coin prices have gone so high that I didn't spend much at all. If they come down, I'll start spending too much on them again.

I look at it this way:

There were a lot of years between ages 15 and 35 that I was completely out of coins. I am still not caught up to 2004!

    Ditto.

I've already spent more in January than I thought I would spend in the first 6 months of 2005 (and I've still got 5 days to go.:confusedimage

That's because you bought cool stuff. Cool stuff is expensive.

I spent a bit more than I had planned on, but I picked up some coins that I
had on my want list for some time.

Not over budget but more than I expected. I'm going to be toning it down for a while.

Never gave much thought to a budget.

If I found a coin that I wanted I tried to figure out a way to get it.

Didn't always work but I like that system a lot better.

  • At the beginning of 2004 I set a budget for my type set collection and I managed to stay well within that budget. However, at the beginning of the year I had no plans to start my commemorative collection yet. But during the year I decided to get a head start on it by picking up a few pieces. After getting a Hudson (64), Hawaiian (64) and Spanish Trail (66), my overall coin budget took a pretty good hit. image

That's funny. I used the exact same justification!

Last year and this year are not the years for me to spend money. I have tons of coins and the prices of coins I would purchase are overblown in my opinion. I've decided to take a break from expensive coins. I'll let everyone else pay those prices. There will be lots of coins in the future I will be interested in at more reasonable prices. It's not in me to overpay to own anything, least of all something for a hobby.

    Budget?? What budget?? image

I actually spent less last year than I would have thought. Buying a new house, and accompanying distractions, helps ...
  • I spent more on coins than I made all year!
    Good credit!

I don't have a budget, but I spent more than what I would have said if you asked me earlier in the year.

Bought about 5 times as much as I expected. Sometimes coins just appear and your have to get 'em!

Besides...I like RYK's philosophy - I didn't spend money on coins for many years so now I have a lot of catching up to do.image

Didn't really have a budget per se, but I spent more than I expected to.

I'm finding myself feeling more priced out of the market over the last few months, though.

I wish I would've spent more, I had a chance to buy three BU 1950D nickel rolls for 900$. I was ready to shoot myself after that, and after I missed out on a 150$ sale of BU '55 franks.

Edit: Btw, I'm only 17, keep in mind my budget is a little lower and 900$ isn't cheap at 7$ an hour+lady commisions image.

YES, I DO have a budget. Broke it by about 300%!!! Didn't even buy that many coins for my Kennedy set! I think I only upgraded 5 coins all year. Bought several proof sets, started a type set and 3 silver eagle sets, proof in original holder, PR DCAM's, AND an MS 69 set for my wife. Her set is almost complete. Bought it piece by piece to try and get her interested in coins-has NOT worked-YET!!! Also bought a few raw coins. Have the same budget this year, my disability check from my retired military, that's all my wife allows me for now. Maybe I should take up smoking, then quit after a year. I could tell my wife I want the money that I would otherwise spend on smoking for coins. Think it will work? Ray
