Check out my new 1806 Draped Bust Quarter/ Luster Pictures Added

This is one of my most recent purchases. The coin has nice original hairline free surfaces, and appears to be totally original with a good amount of luster. The surfaces are a greyish purple color and the luster is a nice golden color. The luster is not completely shown in the pictures. The obverse retains about 30% of its luster and the reverse 75%. There is very little wear on this coin, and any lack of details is due to a weak strike. It is currently in an old green label PCGS holder as AU50. What are your thoughts on this coin and also any upgrade potential?

I think the grade's right on the money. Maybe it's got a shot at 53, but I dunno.

That's a helluva nice DB quarter. My best ever has been barely VF.

Very nice pickup. I love the old Bust coins. I can't really tell if it has a shot at a higher grade from
the small pictures, but still a beauty.

Nice - I'm not sure how much upgrading PCGS does in old green holders. It's like they are adimitting they didn't know what they were doing.

Wisconsin, crack it out and resubmit. It should go 55 or 58 by today's standards. Very nice coin.

Looks like a great coin. I think your upgrade potential will rely soley on the luster factor. How much luster does the coin have?

Detail-wise it looks like a no brainer upgrade, but if the surfaces are lacking luster, that may keep the coin where it is.

No matter what, the coin looks great.

You might get 3 more points to AU-53, but that hardly seem worth it.

  • Wowsers!! That looks AU-50 to me. I wouldn't resubmit it. It's still
    an incredible coin.

He says it's in a PCGS AU-50 holder, so it's AU.

  • Pictures showing luster added above. The golden area is all luster. It glows quite a bit when in the right lighting.

Awesome coin! Congrats! I agree with others that you might get a couple-of-points bump (again depending on luster), but the coin looks great as is, in my opinion.

Very, very nice looking quarter! Congrat's on a great piece. If it were mine I'd leave it in the old holder, but by the pictures I'd pay better than run of the mill 50 money. Quite a bit more I think. Probably has a shot at 53/5, but again that depends on the day and the luster.

Hard to tell a grade on a coin like this from a photo, but looks like a shot at Min 53. IMO, I would leave it in the Au-50 green label. The mystique alone being in a green label holder would make up any difference in value of it going to a 53 or even 55 holder at time of re-sale.

This coin will sell it self?

    Very nice

Wisconsin: That's a very pretty Draped Bust Quarter!! image

I'd leave it in the OGH and would not mess with resubmitting it unless you plan to sell it soon.

I can't tell the grade, but I can tell it looks nice.
I agree with some others...unless you need to have it reholdered for some reason (and go for the upgrade) it may not be worth it.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • While no one would have a problem in an AU-53/5 holder, collectors of this series know how to grade. Agree with everyone, I'd leave it alone- even to auction.
