    No way.

But I agree with everything the Sick, Twisted Freak said. VG-ish, and a very cool coin!

I'm afraid I would 'no grade' it. Looks damaged fairly heavily. Did somebody carve a 'K' on the reverse to the right of 'F' in OF? And what is going on between STATES & OF. Even the undamaged surfaces look wrong to me. If I had to 'net grade' it...maybe G4???? Probably lower...AG3. Guess I'm cranky today.

well I must admit I did not take into account the damage but it's still cool. I guess my original post should have said VG8 ish details.image

No, you're not being cranky, GH. There's definitely some damage there. I wonder if it would be enough to bodybag it. Maybe. Probably.

But who cares if that coin ever made it into a plastic coffin or not? It's great-looking, despite the marks. And considering what's par for the course on this kind of stuff, the damage really isn't that heinous.

I just really like the look of that one.

VG sharpness, but those two do-hickies between "STATES" and "OF" are distracting. They would probably give it a body bag from the major services and lower the grade from VG-8 to G-6 at ANACS.

I think it would only slab at ANACS with a net VG-8 DAMAGED

I like the face details, but there is no hair in the center to make it even a fine.

Being sold as VF-20 . I think it would be a nice buy (at 1/2 the price)

It's no VF-20 even without the damage. That's a joke. This is an VF-20

This coin is VF- 20/30 IMO. The do-hickies that are on the obverse of this are mint caused adjustment marks. They don't affect the grade in this state of preservation.

The trouble is this lady now lives in an undeserved (IMO) NGC EF-40 holder, which puts her in the 5-figure high rent district. One more example of grade-flation. But since she's mine I won't complain too much. image

Nice - NGC thought it was a EF-40, and since it's yours I guess you can't complain too much!

  • VG8 net G4 for damage

  • PCGS: Damaged, bodybag.

  • VG-8/ Net G4. To bad the major services body bag these pre 1836 coins. So many are damaged but the damage could easily be noted on the holder (when it's obvious) with a details grade if they don't want to inject their market opinions on net values. In other words, there is a need for a genuine-details grade for important and very scarce early coins.

it has the VALUE of a g-4, the "GRADE" doesn't really matter

btw, the scratches could easily be doctored, but probably not worth the $$$

  • Fine details, grafitti, net G4. These scrawny eagles have been selling for stupid money though, so watch out on the price! image
