Here's my new OLD 1796 quarter (G4). Opinions Please.

One set of pics shot in sunlight one under desklamp. It is a touch dark but it sure looks original and "wholesome" to my untrained eyes. The bottom set of pics is pretty close to color in hand.

The next picture is a FA02 that is/was offered to me by another dealer. The Fa2 is priced 44% less than the G4.

    I like it!

A 1796 quarter is way up there on my list of coins I'd like to own.
    When in doubt, don't.

Top coin has the better detail but the bottom one I like the surfaces a tad better. However that may be the photos; in any case, both are winner examples of an "affordable" 1796 quarter. Very image - but what does a wannabe like me know, anyway.

That's a nice piece for a Good-4, Goose. It's most of the devices. I would not even consider the piece FR-02. That's just too far gone for me.

Please don't get Jealous, but here's a piece I bought back in the 1980s perhaps for not too much more than what you had to pay for your coin.

Oy gewalt! What a nice one that is, your coin! Wasn't TomB's 1796 quarter VG? It looked better than most "Fine" specimens I've seen. Then again, it would be nice to own that one-year type in any grade. Uber-cool!

    Very nice.

Tough date. I think you did well.

It will only increase in value as time goes by.
  • I hate every 1796-quarter-owning person I've ever come across, and you will be no different, I assure you.

Nice coin--it's one of my favorite silver key dates, and I would like to own one someday. Congratulations and enjoy!

Nice coin. Plus it' looks like it's a Browning 1 (low 6) which is significantly rarer than the Browning 2 (high 6) which the FA2 coin looks to be. I think the one you picked was well worth the extra 44%!!

I believe you are correct. The dealer did tell me that it was the rarer of the 2 Browning types. Whether that is true, I have no clue, but it sounds like you are aware of the differences. thanks

Yes, my coin is a Browning 2. It's pretty easy to tell the two apart if you compare them together.

Nice coin. I've had the privledge of owningbothan AG3 and a FR2 - both of which exhibited the typically more detailed obv and weak reverse. Here's the FR2 I currently have. It actually has nice obv details for the grade.

Nice Coin Goose! With a small mintage of 6100 or so coins and the rarer variesty of those, you cant lose. You need this coin to complete the set!!

    Good Score!

Wow, very nice find goose, who holdered it? I'm not sure I would go for the FA 02 either. Sure collectors will know what it is but for my own taste, I would not be attracted to the FA-02.

    Nice G4 though image
