Hello everyone. Long time no talk but life has been super crazy.
Liza and I arrived in Hawaii on Sunday Jan 16th from San Fran after some leave back home and with her family.
I must say that Hawaii is very beautiful, even the little bit of the most populated and "least beautiful" island of Oahu. Things are well here. We just put an offer on a place in Kaneohe with a killer view. We didnt have real sticker shock at housing here based on the fact that we came from Monterey but it still is a bit of a horse pill to swallow...d'oh!! Tell coinfarmer (my dad) to hurry up and start paying some rent on the place in Illinois so Liza (or me!!) doesnt have to prostitute herself for extra cash!!
I am going to have to put most of my buying capital for the coin business into the house but I will still be a minor player on this crazy coin market, mostly doing wholesale like I did before.
I need to find some coin dealers over here so if you know of any, with addresses, it would be a great help and keep this puppy on topic...and avoid the wrath of the Cam.
The only thing that sucks out here is the traffic and let me tell you...it sucks royally. Luckily, I will be going to work at 4 in the a.m so I will avoid most of it but going home will be a bummer.
My job out here will be forecasting typhoons from the west coast of Mexico all the way to the East coast of Africa. Quite a bit of area but I am looking forward to the challenge and the chance to something operational instead of all the theoretical book work...
Miss all of the fun of the boards and I will be back soonest. Hope this finds you all well and numismatically satisfied!!
Very respectfully,
John

He's in Hawaii. While the rest of the country is snowed under (and it's in the forties even here in the Golden Isles). And he's complaining about traffic. Hmm.
There's only one thing that sucks in this thread, and it ain't the traffic.

Hawaii and London, England are the only two places in the world where you can still get a center breast from Colonel Sanders KFC

Sounds terrific! Congratulations on your new home and experience in beautiful Hawaii. Your job sounds very special too. Typhoon "watchers" will provide a very important function - as recent tragic events have proven. Now all that you need are some "little ones" from you and your bride and everything will be just perfect. Good luck and all the best. matteproof
We are working on the kid thing...

The only bad part of Hawaii is that there is not many coin shops or shows

It's like 10 degrees here, and we're supposed to get a foot of snow. You're in Hawaii. You suck.

Also, we're supposed to get a foot of snow by tomorrow so I'll just say YOU SUCK!
Aloha John...
Congrats on the move to Hawaii. Trust me - you will love it here!
I moved to Paradise in '73 and have most of my years in Kaneohe and Kailua. I love Hawaii and would never want to live anywhere else.
I laugh about your traffic comment... I just got back from a Pro Sound Convention in Pasadena... took me 2 hours to get from LAX to the hotel... bumper to bumper all the way to the I-5 interchange.
NOW THAT SUCKS!!!
Nothing touches that ride on Oahu.... well, I admit I avoid rush hour where possible... But it's just not that bad.
Just call me the Kailua Boy - jshawaii
1) You can show everybody what a bada@@ you are & do the "Run to the Sun." It's a 50 km. or 50 mile run (forget which) up Haleakala.
2) Where you are dictates the rainy season. It varies radically on the islands.
3) There are rare cases of yellow fever in the Hawaiian Islands, like there are in our Deep South.
Enjoy. If I was in the service, they'd probably stick me in either Ft. Irwin or Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Let me see......I have to go out and shovel almost 2 feet of snow in 5 degree temperatures for about 2 hrs this morning... in freakin' New Jersey of all places, where my property taxes are now nearly as high as my annual salary. While you're stuck in traffic in warm, gorgeous Hawaii. So let me just double check here, Yeah....you REALLY suck!
Seriously, my best to you both. Good luck on your new adventure!
I will dig some stuff up...I promise!!!
