Coin Software questions

Just curious if people are using the coin inventory software that is available out there. Or some sort of homegrown database? If you do use the software what are some of the good ones?

I'm trying to use "My Collection Explorer". I bought it off of eBay for $30 and I have mixed feelings about it. The good thing is that it's quite customizable, you can store actual pictures, import eBay auctions, etc.... A couple of the bad points the information isn't consistent throught the coin types, it's hard to get the coins to show up where you want them, and I've spent a lot of hours trying to make it look like I want it. The only way to get help from the creator is through a Yahell group, he does answer any questions posted though.

For right now I'm using an Access Database.

CoinManage from Liberty Street Software. I'm happy with it.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I've tried them all and don't like a one. One day I'll get around to writing my own.

Funny enough, I use Quicken. Yeah, I know it's a financial program, but it neatly tracks my cost and current ("real") value. I can put comments in for each coin and report on my various collection types. The description of the coin includes the grade and any grading service, so it's a little cumbersome.

    I'm strictly "homegrown."

The prices paid and current values are on an Excel spreadsheet. Pictures of the most pieces are in the .jpg format.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I had to write my own to automate things I do - from cracking a proof set, submitting coins, getting grades, generating auctions, tracking receivables, etc.

Just for tracking a collection, I think My Heritage is a pretty good online tool

    Try Coin Collector's Assistant Plus.

It may be overkill for some, but it has everything, including grading guidelines, Trends prices renewable, flexibility to make it fit your particular needs, etc. Regular upgrades (I'm helping with their latest Beta version). I've really been pleased, and the tech support is awesome.

Heritage also has My Collection on their site. Not quite as flexible, but it has good capacities, and the price (free!) is definitely right.

I use Coin Elite. It's not bad.
  • A combination of Excel and a custom website I put together do the job very nicely.

Coin Elite is a great program.
The support is a bit slow.
Elite started as an old D based program years ago and
has made it thru all the different versions of windows.
It can do more than any other program I have seen.
The report designer is an awesome tool.image
It can keep track of each coins image as well.

Coin Elite works for me. The drop down menues to load pictures is clunky & tedious.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • I tried many different software packages to manage my collection. Most of them had nice points, but none of them did everything I was looking for in a program. After some time I decided to write my own software. This software is based off of my original needs and feedback from fellow collectors. If your interested, please take a look at MWPSoftware to see the list of features. A free demo is also available. If you have any questions, please contact me at Support
  • I use Coin Organizer Delux, used to use coin elite...this is better!

I downloaded and installed this (demo). Quick run through was pretty impressive. If you have broadband (36 Mb file) you might take a look.

Standard disclaimer-programmer isn't my brother, father, friend etc etc
