Here's an Indian Cent which as you can see is not exacty perfect.

Here's the question:

What's so special with this coin?

The obvious and probably incorrect answer would be that it is a snow 1, 8/7. It appears to have a one in the neck.

I'll venture that the coin was double struck in the collar, the second strike 3 or 4 degrees clockwise from the first.

I can't see the letter edges of AMERICA very well...but the only thing I can think is it might be the Doubled Die Obverse, with doubling most evident on right edge of AMERICA lettering.

I'm thinking more of a token coin, meaning it has sentimental value, I'm going to guess this was your first coin ever, possibly found, maybe given to you by a grandfather or something.

Admittedly this is a guess - it has the same feather placement as the 1886 type I even though it is dated 1887?

Another answer: Coin was struck onto another coin (i.e., the planchet was not a blank).

I remember the post about parts of the date misplace all over and anywhere in the IH series. There is something odd on the neck. Tip of a one or seven maybe? My best guess, look forward to the answer.

During the same year Jake Kilrain & Jem Smith fight 106 rounds to a bare knuckle draw. The coin was taped to the knuckles of Jake as a MS68 prior to the start of round 1. At the end of round 106 it was removed along with the bloody bandages, thus the "beat up" appearance of the copper.

Other than that I have no other guess than those mentioned earlier....

Last time I checked NGC had only graded a couple FS-010.7 (1888/887 MPD) but I sure can't see that by the photo.

This is a coin that variety / error lovers would like, and that's why I'm not exactly sure why it is so special. I think Mark, Jared and Baley are on the right track, as you can see a double punched date / double die thing going on here, in addition to a double struck image of the Indian on the leftmost portion of the obverse.

If the above is incorrect, I have no idea. If am incorrect and the coin IS special, it must be because it is the will of Allah.

There's evidence of re-strike as well as that headdress doesn't look quite right. I don't have any in front of me but there is definately something out of place with it.

Wow I guess im really blind, because I dont see anything other then a very old beatup well worn Indian cent. Isnt it hard to tell if there is anykind of doubling on a coin thats seen better days?? This is the type of coin I let my nephew grab when he is at my place looking through my coins. Now to think of it, you guys who I feel have a heck of a lot better coin grading and varity identifying skills then I have can see all of what you say it could be. It makes me think I need to start sending you guys my coins to identify all those DD's and repunched dates ive been letting go of. And to think now my nephews younger bother Nick is also getting into coins. Before long they will have my collection split up between them.

Maybe a type II, which if true would make it a proof? Last feather points to the A, so the key would be the distance of the A from the hair curl. Just a semi-guess.

Hmmm special??.........lets see..........maybe that PCGS graded it as a G04GN (that is a new designation for heavily corroded GreeN coins)?? No need to body bag this beauty!
