Coin World forums shutting down.

Beth Diesher (CW editor) announced this morning that that site is shutting down effective Dec. 30.

Maybe with a little luck a few of their members will sign up here. I've no doubt they'd all be welcomed.

Here is the text of the announcement:

For the last seven years Coin World has provided a free online forum. Due to declining usage and our company’s decision to direct resources to other endeavors, we will conclude sponsorship of the Coin World Forum effective December 30, 2004, at 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

For the last seven years Coin World has provided a free online forum. Due to declining usage and with the newest member GregTheGreat begging for free flips, we have seen how pitiful the forum has really become, and will conclude sponsorship of the Coin World Forum effective December 30, 2004, at 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Nah, they'll be fine. I posted there a few days ago so the activity doubled.

Scary things is I never knew CW had a forum.
  • They had the same topics on their forum since mid April or May. I tried to use the forum once but it never worked for me. Maybe there was a problem with their site.
  • I heard the server ran out of room becasue the old Norweeb thread was taking too much space!! image

    There are other forums?
  • I first started on the C W forums for a few months and gradually moved to here..Hopefully, the existing members will do the same and join us.

  • I'm suprised it took this long. They say its because of declining use, well DUH! They chastize people for every little thing they posted, sending their little threatening warning messages about non-issues and nit picking garbage. They removed posts on a whim, simply because their Liberal idiot monitors did not like what was offered or said. One could not even ask a simple question half the time without their Liberal censorship police jumping down your throat, it was like the Gestapo. I told them to pound sand years ago and came here. Much, much better place to be!

I'm a bit sorry to see this.

I had not posted on the CW site for more than a year. After I moved to Florida I had to change settings on my computer, and since I'm not very computer literate, I just lost touch with it.

When the CW site was at its best, it was very collector oriented. Investors and speculators really got the cold should over there, which was refreshing. When one insufferable fool advocated that everyone buy a certain mundane mint product so that the supply would be gone and secondary market prices would go up for HIS benefit, he got a nice round of Bronx cheers with the FULL support of the administration. image
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • I tried to sign on as a C.W. board member when I had web tv. and they replied something to the effect that they couldn't be bothered catering to web tv users. The way they responded to me really ticked me off.
So I cancelled my subscription to Coin World after being a steady subscriber for many years.
    No big loss to me....
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever
  • Doesn't bother me their shutting down.

  • I just dropped in over there to wish everyone a happy holiday season when I saw that they were closing up shop. It looks like most of the membership are heading over to the Coin talk forums. Oh well........I never went over there much anyways.........it took too long to load and the board was very slow........I dont miss the moderation however..........I know they were doing what they had too......but it seemed a bit restrictive.
