Was hoping to get some grade thoughts on this and any other Breen or variety information. I'm posting two different size pictures. It started to get too fuzzy when I went larger than these. Thanks, Lee
Nice coin...I'm not an expert on half dimes, but its MS and from what I can see on the pics ( nice job by the way ) I'd say that this should grade at least MS65 (?)

TDN's grade of net AU55 is certainly possible. But there seems like enough variation of toning between the devices and the fields to make that possibility no more than a possibility.
Thanks guys for your comments. I picked this up cause I thought it was undergraded. I'm probably wrong but that's ok. It's still a nice coin. Sorry TommyType! Probably send to PCGS for upgrade. I was trying to get some pricing info on this but Heritage, Teletrade, and eBay had nothing? I'm happy with it being my first 1/2 dime. I noticed something going on with the date? Thanks Again, Lee
I would agree with the MS-63 grade. Unlike many certified 19th century coins, this one does not have the usual rub on Ms. Liberty’s thigh or breast. I think that the coin was dipped a few years ago and has since toned in the darker areas that you see.
I believe that this is Valentine variety #5. Valentine states that there is a die crack that runs through “184” of the date. If it is that variety there might also be a die defect between the 5th and 6th stars and die break from star # 7 to Ms. Liberty’s head.

I started out wondering if it was cleaned, cause the pic has overly shiny devices. But seeing your NGC grade I ass u me that it's not cleaned. That said... I would have gone MS 62. Grading on half dimes is very stringent. I cracked a couple of MS 64's recently and sent them in,... bad move. They both came back 63's.

Unlike larger coins, half dimes do not have a major problem with bag marks. They are so light that they seldom got large marks when they are placed in bags with other coins of a similar size. Tiny marks, light rub and cleaning are most often their down fall. A silver dallar can some obvious marks and still be an MS-63. Not so with a half dime.

Hey, no problem! The main reason I held back is not because I didn't like the coin, but because I need to throttle back my buying. I've been on a binge.
The Teletrade description, (and their sometimes poor pictures), may indicate the coin may look even better in hand?
"Much soft white mint luster remains at the centers, with russet and sea green toning at the rims. Well struck. Pleasing surfaces. It is a very nice Choice quality example, representing the stars obverse type."
wow, I like it...........64, but would rather see in hand....nice coin

<< <i> Thanks for all the great comments. I'm going to send it PCGS for upgrade!! I'll keep you guys posted!!!!!!!! Lee >>
Good Luck!
I don't think that you will get an upgrade. The white parts of the surfaces are probably dulled by a haze from the dipping solution. As such PCGS won't like for any more than an MS-63 if that. The current MS-63 grade is the right one for this coin in a front line (PCGS, NGC) slab. You might get more points out the other brands, but you will only be fooling yourself.

In person inspection is a must on this one.
I'm going to guess NGC MS-64.
If it's ANACS, I'll say MS-63.

My picture is the coin "In Hand". The first picture was a Heritage picture. Mine is more realistic of how the coin actually looks. Lee
