Just for the record, Illinois played in the final four in 1952 and 1989 which were the only other times they were ranked number 1. I would have thought they would have been number 1 more times than that considering the teams they have had dating back to the 1940's. GT looks good too as do the usual suspects from the ACC

If Illinois can get past Wisconsin when they play at Madison and Michigan State at East Lansing, they could finish the regular season unbeaten... Let's see... when did that happen last? Indiana in the early 1980's or Duke in the early 1990's? I don't recall. It could even be UCLA in the 1970's.

I'll take a shot with Wake Forest. They have some tough games coming up in the next few weeks though, that could prove telling.

The ACC is still superior, any team can win at home. I'm a bit suprised no one has picked Kansas - they made me break my remote on New Year's - 'Nova will get 'em on Saturday. BJ's back, but so far my Jackets have sucked on the road. image

I read the RPI rankings recently and Illinois played Wake Forest as well as other top 25 top ranked teams and their schedule strength was in the grandstands... I just do not get it.

I'll pick a darkhorse....Connecticut. Two-peat. They are just a step or two from putting it all together. Right now they would be a 4 or 5 seed in the tourney, and a team no one would want to meet.

Boston College is a great choice too. Have to love the pounding in the Big East. Same for Syracuse. I don't see a non-Big East or ACC team taking it all this year.

So all you unconvinced guys still think BC hasn't
played anyone yet? We beat the 'Cuse with a
technical in the first half, a technical in the second
half, and missing our point guard for most of the
second half. With losses this past week for Wake,
Kentucky, and Kansas, BC should be #3 in the polls
later today (highest ranking ever) and should have
the #1 seed in the East as it stands right now.

    22-1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was a nice call augustaman - BC has had one helluva season so far. They almost knocked my team last year in the tourney and now that these guys are more experienced, they're dangerous. The ACC is going to be ridiculous next year!

GT will beat Duke later today - I guarantee it - 84-78 GT.

Tech gets to start their March Madness tournament early.
A loss this weekend at Miami will prevent the Yellow Jackets
from getting an NCAA invitation. 6-8 with a game left @ Wake
will be doomsday. A VERY BIG game for both squads.

I agree Bill, after losing to Wake, GT must win today, today's win might still be good enough to push GT, an 8-8 team in the ACC, into the tourney. Some say that that might not be good enough, but we'd also need to win an ACC tourney game. If Maryland beats VT, I'd rather us be 6th instead of 5th (thus cheering for NCST to upset Wake) so we wouldn't have to play the terps after our bye.

BC's still looking good, although, I'm not sure about them as a number 1 seed. I would welcome an NCAA rematch even though they're better because I just want to see GT in the tourney image

It's easy to pick one of a handful of favorites, I'm going to add Gonzaga as my pick for an unlikely champ. They have all the tools to give anyone a good game and could beat anyone on a given night.

North Carolina, Illinois, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky.....add some more I missed.....shaping up to be a great tournament.

I don't care how down the Big Ten is this year, to only lose one on the road in the Big Ten is magnificent. I know it's tough to win on the road in any conference, but those trips to East Lansing and Madison are killers. There were over 19.000 at the Ohio State game. Think that's any easier than winning anywhere in the ACC? I say Illini.

I stand corrected. During the game they said GT was the only team to have a winning record against UNC in the finals and GT beat UNC last year too. I guess all the other games UNC won.

Yeah, I'm not sure about what rounds all these games have been played-the 8 games is just the tounament history record. Tech may be the daddy when it comes to the finals of the tournament.

I'll be pulling for Tech tomorrow. Hopefully the Heels and Jackets can meet one more time this year--maybe the Final Four.

Well I just completed my bracket........
They certainly didn't finish strong but
hopefully it will give them some motivation.

I'm sticking with them and got BC upsetting
    the Illini in Chicago.

    Let the MADNESS begin...........

BC may win today, but they won't stop the Illini. Despite Illinois playing poorly lately they are still going to win it all. I wouldn't be surprised to see Southern Illinois knock off Oklahoma State either.
