Poll - What denomination is most fun to collect?

Since someone earlier wondered what was most boring, what about what is the most fun to collect.
I am partial to Pennies and Ikes myself, pennies more though.

In my old age, I've come to like American gold coins. I even collect the modern commemorative gold pieces. I'm in the process of putting together a set of the Proof and Uncirculated sets that came in the wooden boxes.

I still like all early coins, especially the early silver. Grading problems and very high prices have pretty much soured me on early copper. At one time I collected half cents by die variety.

I guess I'd have to say that no one denomination is my favorite. As a type collector I like them all. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • I find commems to be the most "Fun". Like a kid in a candy store, each commem offers a different flavor.

Quickly breezing past "V" nickels, we come to the Buffs ... mintage and strike rarieties abound, three of the classics in the 1916/16, 1918/17-D and Three Legged, the most truly American of all coins. Then, the Jeff series is replete with strike rarieties as well in the hunt for FS, and has such classics as the 1943/2-P, 1942-D over Horizontal D, 54-S/D, etc. and a boatload of DDs and RPMs. And, in the 1950-64 proofs, Jeffs, along with Lincolns, are the toughest to find in CAM and DCAM ... Gotta love the five cents for outright fun!

I've been really hooked on the early half dismes (1792 - 1805) for years.

Had to go with colonials, but all of the above would work. Including darkside.

I really like Quarters and Half Dollars. Their size to me is large enough to see and handle, their designs through the years are among the best in American coinage (including many of the classic commem halves) and t me they are just the most interesting and enjoyable coins.

Although I collect all denominations in "type" fashion, I don't care for coins smaller than nickels, and find half dimes, 3 cent silvers, and gold dollars particularly difficult to handle. Never did care much for Morgans but I do have sets of peace dollars and Ikes that I'm working on and enjoy.

And, of course, the gold coins are spectacular and very fun to collect.

I didn't know Large Cents, small cents before Lincolns, and Lincolns were different denominations image. I like pennies. More specifically small cents. If one doesn't include 1856 or can afford 1856, one can actually complete the set of all of them. Nickels are cool too for that reason.

Half dollars are nearly perfect. They have a bit of heft and size, but are still cute and cuddly like a collectable should be.
