A very little something from the monthly Atlanta Show today.....Dahlonega Gold $

A huge thank you to my D-mint mentor, board member Dahlonega. He's been looking for an original dollar to match my set for the better part of 8 months. I was not expecting one today, what a very pleasant surprise. Unfortunately I can't get a crisp image in the slab. Camera wants to focus on the plastic and not the coin. Someday when I have more time and patience I will get a better pic using manual focus.

Also enjoyed talking with the Pug and Tassa. I hadn't seen Frank since the summer and am pleased to report he looks great. He has lost alot of weight and looks fully recovered from his ordeal. Oh, and of course, Tassa always looks great.

I'd call it a 50, maybe 53.

Edited to add: Many of us that collect circulated Dahlonega gold are more interested in originality than the number on the holder.

If it is (board member) "Dahlonega"-approved and from the Gold Rush Gallery, it is by definition an original coin and nice for the grade.

"Dahlonega", Al Adams, and Carl Lester have a knack for uncovering terrific southern gold coins.

Get yourself a Half Eagle. This is so tiny if it was not in a holder I would lose it.

The 1849-D Dollar is the most common date. But it is difficult to use common and Dahlonega in the same sentence. The mintage is 21,588 with an estimate of 250-300 pieces known to exist. 115-135 in AU and higher.

It was good to see John and his crusty little gem. This 1849D is fully original with a gorgeous "leather pouch" skin to it. John was smiling from ear to ear after he saw his new find
